Tranquility

Tranquility lives up to its name. Peace & quiet are the words guests use most to describe their visit. Less than 4 miles from the beach & 1 mile from the boat landing and hiking/bike trails, this is the place to unplug & reconnect with family & friends. To make sure you have a great vacation and know what to expect during your stay, it is important to read ALL information in our listing carefully. In addition to NOT being on the beach, several features make our home unique and not for everyone. The space Down a quaint dirt road, surrounded by big oaks, palmettos, and pine trees, our island-cottage style home is perfectly suited for family vacations, intimate getaways and small group retreats. Enjoy morning coffee and meals on the screened porch or lounge in the hammock with your favorite book. You will be treated to the sights and sounds of Lowcountry wildlife on the big covered porch. After a relaxing day on the island or at the beach, enjoy the outdoor shower, or play a game of ping-pong downstairs. Then head up to prepare local seafood in the well-equipped kitchen. It has everything you need! We love our home and hope you do too, but you should be aware of the following features: Our home is in a rural location, down a dirt road, on a sea island. We provide additional details about all this in the house manual and in other areas of the listing. However, you need to know that WE DO NOT HAVE government services, like TRASH PICK UP OR WATER/SEWER. We have well water with a water softening, reverse osmosis system and a septic tank. You must take your trash to the local dump site. Because we are in a heavily wooded area, you will likely encounter various songbirds, woodpeckers, raccoons, and various bugs and spiders. Though we certainly try our best, it is difficult to keep the outside porches completely clean and free of pollen in the spring. We want you to enjoy your vacation, and we understand that people find joy in different ways. We named our home Tranquility, because it is meant to be a place of rest and relaxation. For us, part of what this means is that we do not have WIFI/internet or cable or regular TV service. Plus, cell service can be spotty. We do have a collection of DVDs and a player connected to both TVs. We have many families and friend groups stay at our home year after year, and it makes us happy that others are creating memories here. Nevertheless, if unplugging makes you uncomfortable, or you are not suited to a sea island way of life, please look at the many other options available on Edisto. It is a wonderful island and beach, and other properties are sure to have what you are looking for. Finally, we have neighbors nearby who live here year-round. Please respect that this is a quiet residential area and not the rowdy beach strip. Because of this we don’t allow ATVs, or parties/loud gatherings of any kind. Also- no dogs. These are firm rules with no exceptions. Guest access We will message soon after your stay is confirmed to touch base. Then the morning of your arrival, we provide the check-in code to the key lock box. Other things to note We do not provide beach chairs or beach towels, but we do have a ping pong table and lots of places to relax on our large porch. We do not have an indoor dining room. Meals can be shared outside at the table on the screen porch or at the kitchen bar. Though we discuss this above, it bears repeating that Tranquility is meant to be a retreat from busy life. Off the beaten path, it uses well water with a reverse osmosis system, and guests must take trash to a local dump site. Our home DOES NOT HAVE Wifi/internet connection and cell service can be spotty. Tranquility does not have cable TV and digital TV antennas do not pick up a signal. We have a collection of movies and TV series DVDs, but feel free to bring your faves. We are currently in the process of changing bedroom 3, so it may look different from these pictures. However it will continue to have the same size bed. Please message us if you have any concerns about the fact that that bedroom may not appear as it is in the current photos.
