Description
On the outskirts of a village called Hyakuna in southern Okinawa, we have created a lodging called "mui". This is a place where people can let their thoughts and actions come naturally, like the cry of a newborn baby or the water changing its shape and envelopes when hitting something. We do not have the services or facilities of a luxury hotel. We serve only as an Utsuwa (space/vessel) where visitors can enjoy the space in their own way using the ingredients of this wonderful region. The space There are a total of four guest rooms at mui. Each room is independent and is rented as a single building with a garden. The room layout, size and facilities of each room are almost the same, but the landscapes of the garden vary. *Only the 青星 (Aohoshi) room has tatami on the second floor (two sets of double-size futons can be laid out) and is also suitable for guests with children. The guest room is two stories high with an atrium. The dining kitchen space is on the first floor and is equipped with 2 induction stoves, a refrigerator and other cooking utensils. The spacious kitchen counter is made of Ryukyu limestone. Beautiful and ergonomic tableware can be found in the cupboard. This tableware is from "nakamurakenoshigoto", a studio in Nanjo City. We encourage you to get ingredients from the nearby market and enjoy cooking with local produce. You can enjoy the incredible quality of sound of the music that resonates inside the open ceiling room. You can place the cordless Bluetooth speaker equipped in the room wherever you like, from your bedside or to the table to enjoy your favorite music. The second floor has a bedroom and a bathroom with a Goemon bath (iron kettle-shaped bathtub). You can open the skylight and feel the connection with the outside while you bathe. Relax while looking at the passing clouds, the night sky and raindrops. Two spacious double beds, mattresses with Japanese-made pocket coils, down quilts tailored to the Okinawan climate, and soft double gauze sheets made of 100% cotton made by the Japanese traditional process called "wazarashi'' will comfortably wrap your body. There are no windows on the second floor except for the skylight, creating a sense of quietness as if you are hiding in an attic. The bedside bracket lights made of copper invite you to a warm and peaceful sleep. Enjoy mui's original drip coffee and Okinawan craft beer while sitting on a lounge chair designed by Okinawan designer Kensaku Oshiro. Each room is equipped with a washing machine and gas dryer on the second floor. Please enjoy your time here as long as you wish, just as though you live here. Guest access High-ceilinged common space weaves through the four guestrooms. The Irori fireplace (a type of Japanese traditional sunken hearth) and reception area can be used by guests as a common lounge, café and bar. Other things to note Although you cannot directly see the ocean from our lodging, a short walk through the local village will bring you straight to the untouched ocean. BREAKFAST Breakfast plates using Okinawan ingredients (with drink) are available for guests on request. If you wish, please make a reservation in advance by sending us a message. *2,000 JPY per person will be charged (payment at the front reception). AMENITIES To be environmentally friendly, we do not provide disposable amenities such as toothbrushes, combs, shower caps or razors. Please also note that we do not provide robes. For the same reason, we do not change linens and towels during your stay, however for long-term guests, we will ask about your preference at the time of check-in. STAYING WITH KIDS Children (including infants) are not allowed to stay in 光風 (Kofu), 緑雨 (Ryokuu) and 波月 (Namitsuki). Only 青星 (Aohoshi) can accommodate children. If you wish to stay with children, please make a reservation in 青星 (Aohoshi). FILMING AND PHOTOSHOOT During the cafe hours (Monday , Thursdays and Wednesdays from 2 pm to 5 pm), we ask that all customers refrain from taking photos or videos in the common areas. Please take photos or videos outside of the hours above. OTHER NOTES We have planted many plants and trees around mui hoping that we will eventually be surrounded by a forest. However, where there is nature, a variety of creatures will inevitably gather. Birdsong and crying frogs may be pleasant, but insects such as Yaaruu (geckoes in the Okinawan language) and spiders are also common in Okinawa's natural environment. If this makes you uncomfortable, please do not hesitate to ask for help. We would appreciate it if you could watch over them with fondness and respect.
