Come experience history in this unique old stone farm house. It's limestone glory has served many purposes in it's almost 200 years of standing tall! From 1835-1875, this area was known for the Manchester Settlement. At one time, the region consisted of a blacksmith, wagon shop, inn and post office. There was even a ferry to cross the Pecatonica River. Imagine the influential people who may have passed through here! The space The property is a working farm with beautiful views, situated along Highway 70. Close to apple orchards, wedding venues, and forest preserves for fishing, kayaking and canoeing. Small towns (Winnebago, Rockton, downtown Rockford, Beloit, WI) within 30 minutes or less for fine dining, golfing and shopping antiques. Bypass 20 is within 5 miles for traveling to Chicago, Galena and Madison. Guest access The house is situated on a 10 acre working farm. Guests have full access to the house and are welcome to walk around the property and enjoy the atmosphere. For safety reasons, animals, gated areas and outbuildings are off limits. Please, do NOT feed the animals. Other things to note What was once a stage coach trail is now Highway 70. Traffic can be noisy at peak times of the day, but it does quiet down for the enjoyment of beautiful sunsets and star gazing. This house is almost 200 years old. There are uneven thresholds throughout the house and steep stairs that lead to the bedroom on the second level and the dryer in the basement. The master bedroom, bathroom, and washing machine are however located on the main floor. Please note, despite our preventative efforts, there are certain times of the year when insects and other critters come uninvited. If this sort of thing makes you uncomfortable, then it’s probably not the place for you to stay. Please do not give us a bad review for something that is out of our control. This is an old farmhouse on a working farm with stone walls that are two feet thick. It’s part of country living! In addition, there’s a reason for a limited number of guests. If you are caught with more than 4 guests without prior permission, you will be charged an additional fee, and it will cost you a bad review!
