Description

HARTLAND North Devon: Little Barton Hartland Cottage lies within a small farmstead of traditional slate and stone buildings at the end of a long 'green lane' flanked with wild flowers. 7 mins by car from Hartland Quay. An ECO place run on ORGANIC principles. Wild walks along deserted beaches, windy headlands and wooded valleys. Great Atlantic swimming and surfing. Clear night skies. A roaring fire in the woodburner. Seasonal sea views from your bedroom. A wonderful escape from the city! The space Set in the North Devon AOB, part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve, Little Barton is half way between the village of Hartland (30 mins walk, partly through the woods, 7 mins drive) and the beach at Speke's Mill Mouth (30 mins walk, partly on National Trust land). Little Barton Cottage lies within a Courtyard of sympathetically renovated traditional slate and stone farm buildings to the rear of the Farmhouse. It has a large, enclosed garden with a patch of wild flower wilderness, and an established apple tree. There’s a barrel BBQ and a round table so you can all eat outside. There’s room to park up to 2 cars. The Cottage is often hired along with the Farmhouse and barn for yoga and dance retreats and other workshops. Upstairs, there are 3 bedrooms. The principal bedroom is very large and has a King double bed with views of the Atlantic and a single sofa bed. The other very large double has a superking bed and a single and can be configured as a triple. In addition there is a small single and a cot. Downstairs there is a modern bathroom with a bath and separate electric shower. The cosy sitting room has a fantastic wood burner and a piano and a sofa and comfy chairs. There is a second wood burner in the artisan kitchen, where French windows open into the garden, making it a great place to cook and keep an eye on the children. There’s full central heating for the colder months, with the first basket of wood provided for each wood burner - after that you pay for wood at cost. There's soft, wood flooring throughout so please bring soft indoor slippers to protect the floors and keep you feet warm. Little Barton has its own water supply, and eco sewage treatment plant. Ecover washing/cleaning products are provided as no strong chemicals can be used here. Lots of choice when it comes to local beaches for surfing and swimming. Wild high tide swimming at Hartland Quay is fantastic! Dogs are welcomed, but only in the kitchen, where there’s a dog gate to separate them from the rest of the house. There are sheep and cattle in the fields surrounding Little Barton and some wonderful uninterrupted views of rolling farmland. It is truly rural! We are a family of five who have been slowly restoring and creating here for more than 38 years. There’s now a wood fired potter and a design studio here. We’re very happy to help and advise when needed. POTTERY: Pottery classes sometimes available on request. YOGA: There is a 40 foot yoga barn with a sprung floor which can be hired for retreats and can be used by individuals by arrangements. LOCATION/SURFING: Midway between Bude and Westward Ho! Lots of choice for surfing. Boards and wetsuits can be hired from The Surf Shack in Bude. LOCAL ACTIVITIES for all ages: fishing, trips to Lundy, gardens open to the public, wake boarding, high ropes, climbing, trips to Clovelly, Hartland Abbey and Docton Mill. Lots of local potteries and art. ‘The Milky Way’ is 15 mins away and is great for kids on rainy days. HIGH TIDE WILD SWIMMING at Hartland Quay is fantastic. Guest access You will have your own large garden and are welcome to use the path across the wildflower meadow. The long green lane access track is a great place for a quick morning walk with your cup of coffee. It may also be able to book the barn for ping pong or yoga. Other things to note PRICING IS INITIALLY FOR 2 WITH AN ADD ON FOR ADDITIONAL GUESTS. This is primarily for bookings low season, when prices are lower. You will have access to the whole house. If you are a large group booking in peak season it may be possible to offer a discount. Please ask. Little Barton has a Touch Stay telephone app which will give you a full guide to the house, area, local shops and entertainment etc. The access code will be passed on to you when you book. NO SMOKIING/VAPING OR USE OF ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES allowed inside any building at Little Barton. Please let me know if anyone in your group has mobility issues etc, to ensure the Cottage will be suitable for them. Electric cars can be charged in Hartland (but not at Little Barton).
