Welcome to 13 Hills! Set in the picturesque Monadnock region, our earth-sheltered, open concept home offers magnificent views, serenity, and comfort. With an 1100 square foot terrace with firepit and year-round hot tub, and pool room with darts, this is not your usual B&B. Your room has a king-size memory foam bed, bureau, 42 inch TV, DVD & internet services, a full bath with tiled shower, a fridge with freezer, microwave and panoramic vistas. Full breakfasts of your choosing are our specialty! We welcome fully-vaccinated persons only. That being said, we are otherwise fully inclusive in terms of race, religion, and gender identity. Our 1800 square-foot home is earth-bermed, making it naturally warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. We have solar electric with battery back-up, so we always have electricity even if the grid is down for an extended time (and a gas generator as a back-up to that!). The house features a great room with a dining area, stone fireplace, living room, kitchen and media area. Your bedroom, right off of the great room, features a king-sized memory foam mattress, chair, bureau, night stands, lamps, clock radio, luggage stands, a 42 inch TV with Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, a Blu Ray DVD, a 3.2 cubic foot fridge with freezer. and a full size microwave. Open the curtains and you'll be treated to our wonderful view of Beryl Mt. and the hills beyond. A bunkbed with a trundle is in the room across the hall, which is why the listing shows 1 bedroom but 2 beds. The full bathroom has a newly-tiled shower and bidet. Robes and slippers are in your closet for use to/from the hot tub, where swim suits are optional. Smoking is permitted in the enclosed porch and outside. Complimentary coffee and tea service is in your room for your convenience. The 1100 square foot terrace features a fire pit for nighttime enjoyment, chairs, picnic table, and 2 grills, one of which is vegetarian-only. Ourtreadmill, also with a 42" TV and streaming services, and an inversion table is available for use in the year-round greenhouse, next to your room. Our rescue dog, Hannah, is a mixed breed who loves attention, so if you don't like dogs, we're not the right place for you. To see the most recent video of our house search "Byll & Cheryl's Earth-Sheltered Home Update 2016" on YouTube. This search will also pull up all of the other construction videos and previous updates. For an aerial look at the house, search for "13 Hills - A Unique Earth-Sheltered Destination". We also have a pool room in our upper garage, which is available to guests. We host Tuesday night pool sessions for our friends, and you are welcome to join us. A dart board and darts are also in the pool room. Our house is surrounded by hills, so we have great sledding, cross country skiing and snow shoeing in the winter. Our main highway is a favorite of bicyclists, offering a 22 mile loop of primarily flat terrain paralleling the Cold River. Beryl Mountain offers good hiking and a variety of stones and crystals. Pitcher Mountain is just 20 minutes away and affords the closest panoramic views of the entire region. Mt. Monadnock, one of the most-climbed mountains in the world, is about an hour away. The major towns in the area - Keene, Claremont and Springfield, VT - are all about 25-30 minutes away. 13 Hills is registered with the State of New Hampshire as a Bed and Breakfast and our license number is 062015. We were recently awarded the highest customer satisfaction award by Booking.com and have consistently been AirBnB Superhosts since 2017. Guests have access to their bedroom, the green house, kitchen/dining/living/TV area, laundry area, media library, the enclosed porch, the hot tub, the terraces with fire pit and grills, and the pool table in the upper garage - basically the entire house, except our bedroom/bathroom. The TV in the great room is reserved for Byll & Cheryl's use after 8 pm. Both Cheryl and Byll are almost always at the property, though Cheryl does travel for her work. While we are always interested in getting to know our guests and showing off our home, we respect guests' desires for solitude and privacy. We're certainly happy to provide information and advice on the local scene if requested. South Acworth is a quiet, off-the-beaten-track village that boasts a community-run country store that dates to 1865. Many local craftspeople and artisans have their wares available for purchase there, and the store stocks all the necessities and last-minute items. The Cold River runs through the town, and is bordered by hills on both sides, so we are often treated to fog views in the valley below us. Rt. 123A, which parallels the river for 11 miles, has been recently paved, making it a great bicycle route as it's fairly flat with just enough hills to make it interesting. Our community church features a recently renovated steeple and the town library, founded in 1891, houses an extensive stuffed bird collection. Beryl Mountain, of which we have a magnificent view, is the source of the beryls used in making the first atomic bomb and is a favorite with rock hounds. There is easy access in town to the vast NH snowmobile trail system, and we have great hills for sledding and cross-country skiing. There are 4 downhill skiing areas and 2 touring areas within an hour's drive, the closest being Mt. Sunapee, about 35 minutes away. Our own hills are perfect for easy sledding, snow-shoeing or cross country skiing. The nearest town of any size is Walpole, home of Ken Burns of PBS fame and a very good restaurant - The Restaurant at Burdick's. Keene, Claremont and Springfield are all about 25-30 minutes away and offer a wider array of shopping, dining and movies. While there are 2 Amtrak stations within 15 miles, there is no other public transportation so a car is required. We have ample parking space for multiple vehicles, snowmobile trailers or other trailers. The house is one level and wheelchair accessible. We provide a full breakfast to your liking (please see menus in the photo section), from pancakes or french toast with maple syrup from our trees to omelettes or fried eggs, home fries and sausage to cereal, yogurt and fruit, so do let us know your preferences and/or dietary restrictions so we can accommodate you. As Byll is a long-time ovo-lacto vegetarian, providing a non-meat breakfast is not a problem and we also have wide experience providing vegan, no-lactose and gluten-free breakfasts.
