The space Hello from The Retreat at River's Edge! This is a peaceful waterfront property, with 4 total cabins, tucked away along the Shenandoah River. You are looking at Cabin #1, "Cottonwood Cabin". We have two large grassy riverfront acreage with 100' of river frontage that is perfect for a bbq and outdoor games during the day and there are multiple fire pits for you to roast s'mores once the sun sets. You can inner tube or kayak the river on your own or book a tour with Shenandoah River Outfitters right up the road. If you like fishing you will love our South Fork location, which is on a wide, shallow bend perfect for fly fishing. The National Forest is just a stone's throw away with endless hiking possibilities. You’ll be sure to have a delightful time immersed by nature and enjoying all the excitement the river and Luray have to offer! Cottonwood Cabin will be your exclusive 600 square foot cabin with a sizable 200 square foot patio. There are majestic views of the river and grounds. Inside, the cabin has been splendidly renovated in a modern style. There is a kitchen with a full-sized range, stainless steel refrigerator, microwave, toaster and a Keurig coffee maker. Next to is is the living area, where you can relax in the cushy sofa (this converts to a queen bed), and a toasty electric fireplace to curl up around with hot chocolate on cooler nights. We provide a DVD player with a wide selection of DVD’s for the large flat-screen TV. There are also many games, puzzles and books for you to enjoy during your unplugged break. In the zen-like bathroom, you will find a shower/tub combo plus vanity and ladder-style shelf with plenty of storage space for all your traveling toiletries. You will have no trouble sleeping like a bear cub on our king bed with a cloud-like memory foam mattress topped with fresh, quality linens and comfortable pillows. Start your morning with a hot cup of coffee lounging on the comfortable patio furniture listening to the birds begin their day, or perhaps catch a glimpse of a doe or wild turkey eating breakfast by the river. On a summer afternoon, you’ll be sure to see some kayaks, canoes and tubes float by on the water, or better yet, you’ll be out there yourself! Book a river excursion with Shenandoah River Outfitters just 3 miles up the road or bring your own toys and discover the river yourself! There is a large space under the patio perfect for storing your water toys. After a full day of exploring and adventure you will be hungry! Enjoy your private charcoal grill and get those hot dogs and burgers sizzling! And save room for dessert – the fire pits will make the perfect gooey s’more! There are grill tools in the kitchen and campfire skewers hanging right outside your cabin. There are also plenty of complementary firewood on the property for you to use. Cabins #1 (Wildflower) and #4 (Honeysuckle) have private campfire pits right outside of the cabins, and all guests can enjoy the two large fire pits on the lower portion of the property. Once evening comes, unwind in the fresh air and watch the tranquil sunset while nature sings you a goodnight song. On a clear night, there is endless stargazing, as far as the eye can see. There is nothing better than watching the night stars settle over the surrounding mountains. We encourage guests to unplug so they can enjoy our peaceful natural habitat. However we understand the importance of being connected in today's world. Satellite WiFi is available in the cabin which will allow light internet usage such as checking emails and web browsing. Streaming and downloading will not supported, so please do not try as it will jam up the bandwidth for everyone else. The TV is set up for DVD player use only. Enjoy a movie from our provided selection or bring your family's favorites. Feel free to bring your gaming console as long as it does not require an internet connection (Mario-Cart, anyone?!). The cabin is stocked with a beginning amount of K-cups, toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, and hand & dish soap. Fresh towels, pillows, and king sheets for the master bed, and queen sheets for the sofa bed are provided. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, dishes and utensils. We do recommend stopping by a grocery store (Walmart & Food Lion are about 25 mins away in the town of Luray) to stock up on your favorite groceries and any extra items you may want before you arrive. There is not a laundry on-site so be sure to pack accordingly. Dogs are welcome on this property, however, please keep them on a leash while outside and don’t forget to clean up after them. There are 2 dogs maximum per cabin. The fee is $40/dog per stay. After you book, you will receive comprehensive arrival materials, including information about what to pack, as well as a detailed outline of all the local adventures, experiences and restaurants. We can’t wait to host you at The Retreat at River’s Edge! Guest access The entire cabin is yours to enjoy privately. Each cabin has a private entrance and patio (as shown in photos). We have an easy self check-in process with the electronic keypad. The yard and fire pit areas by the river are shared, however there is plenty of space for all guests to enjoy the property as they wish. Other things to note Interested in booking two, three or all four cabins concurrently? Please message us to inquire about availability for multiple cabin rentals. Each cabin can comfortably accommodate up to 4 guests. Bring some friends and book two cabins, (up to 8 guests) or bring the whole family and enjoy the entire lot to yourselves (up to 16 guests)! Our property is off of Page Valley Road which parallels the Shenandoah River. The road turns to gravel for the last 3 miles. Smaller cars are fine during normal weather conditions, however during snow or ice we recommend 4x4 vehicles. There is plenty of parking available at the top of the property, perfectly positioned so as not to block any views of the woods or river. 2 cars max per cabin. If you plan to bring a trailer, please inquire before booking to make sure we have enough space for it. Please, no riding ATVs or dirt bikes on our property. Also no guns or weapons are allowed. You can expect to see plenty of wildlife around the property. Please respect the wildlife and do not feed wild animals. Bugs are unfortunately a part of wilderness so be sure to bring plenty of spray, keep the doors and windows shut, and limit light usage at night to keep the bugs out!
