Historic Farmhouse Escape Just 20 Mins from Zurich

Welcome to our beautifully renovated 1777 farmhouse, tucked away in the quiet village of Winikon near Uster in Zurich. This warm and inviting studio apartment combines old-world charm with modern comforts, including a cozy bed, well-equipped kitchenette, and a comfy sitting area. We’re Rochelle and Alister, and along with our daughter Arya and our friendly Husky/Shepherd mix, Phoenix all originally from New Zealand. We’d love to welcome you to our beautifully renovated 1777 farmhouse in the peaceful village of Winikon, just above Uster. Your private 40sqm studio sits within the original farmhouse and blends historic charm with modern comfort. Exposed timber beams and tasteful decor create a warm and calming atmosphere. You’ll sleep soundly in two plush king single beds, and enjoy your own private bathroom with a walk-in shower. The kitchenette is fully equipped for longer stays, including a full-size fridge, dishwasher, two-hob stove, and an espresso machine for your morning coffee. There’s also a comfortable sofa and a dining table with seating for four—ideal for slow breakfasts or a glass of wine at the end of the day. Guests enter through our shared main door and landing, but the studio itself is entirely private. We live in the main part of the house and are happy to offer local tips or say hello, while also respecting your privacy. Phoenix, our German shepard/Husky X, may greet you to — she’s always happy to make new friends! Step outside and you’ll find yourself surrounded by green fields, horses grazing, and quiet forest paths waiting to be explored. You’re welcome to wander the farm or lose track of time walking in the forests that stretch out in both directions from the property. For the active, there’s a full sports centre nearby offering swimming, climbing, tennis and more. Uster, with supermarkets, shops, and restaurants, is just down the hill. The nearest train station is a scenic 15-minute walk away, and from there, Zurich is only a 20-minute ride—close enough for city adventures, yet far enough to relax fully in nature’s embrace. We love this simple, connected lifestyle and we hope you’ll feel at home here too. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a solo retreat, or a peaceful base while exploring Switzerland, our farmhouse studio offers a warm welcome and a true taste of country life. Ask us about the local farm shop nearby where you can get local milk, cheese, butter, apple juice and other tasty fresh food. Guest access The entrance to your apartment leads through a common area - the corridor downstairs, the staircase and a corridor upstairs, so there’s a chance we might bump into each other. The apartment itself is very private - the kitchen, bathroom and a living area are just for your own use. We just ask that you keep the front doors locked, our clever Houdini dog has figured out how to open them and would love nothing more than to go on her own adventure! Other things to note The studio shares the main entrance and landing area with us, but your space is private and self-contained. Our friendly dog Phoenix lives on the property—she’s gentle and well-behaved, but please let us know if you're not comfortable around dogs. Parking is available on-site and free of charge. Park next to one of the other cars usually on site or over next to the bush fence. The farmhouse is over 240 years old—while fully renovated, some features have historic charm and character (including low beams in places!). We provide basic pantry items, dishwashing tabs, tea, and coffee to get you started. Uster is easily accessible by foot, bike, or Lime scooter—many guests enjoy exploring without a car. There is a Coop supermarket at the Uster railway station that is open 7 days a week. Public transport is excellent: the nearest station is a 15-minute walk and connects you to Zurich in just 20 minutes. There is a bus that takes you half way to our home, it can be worth it if you have heavy bags. Bus 811 leaves often from the station, get off at Meieracher stop, it's only about 6 mins. Please note that while the village is peaceful, you may occasionally hear horses, roosters, or farm activity—part of the rural charm!
