Description
Enjoy peace, privacy and panoramic views from this 17th-century grade two listed cottage with beautiful fellside garden. Situated on the edge of Hartsop, a tiny and tranquil hamlet at the foot of Kirkstone Pass, Green Bank is a gem of a rural getaway, with stunning walks in fells - low and high level - and around lakes from the garden gate. A popular holiday let since the 1990s with many repeat visitors, Green Bank used to be managed by an agency and has relatively recently come to AirBnB. The space Green Bank is all on ground level with the front door opening into a central hallway. The cosy sitting-cum-dining room has a log-burning stove and smart TV. There are views onto open fells in one direction and to the garden in the other. The kitchen, while small, is well-planned and well-equipped with an exposed-stonework wall and door to the back garden. There are two bedrooms: the double has windows overlooking the garden; and the twin room has views towards Hartsop Dodd. The bathroom has a shower over the bath, basin and loo. The entire cottage has been sympathetically restored, with oak lintels supporting the thick stone walls, exposed beams and slate floors throughout. Electric heaters provide warmth in every room. Green Bank has a delightful, extensive and private cottage garden complete with a small beck which descends from the fellside. It is a haven for wild birds. Cattle and sheep from the neighbouring farm graze on the pasture immediately surrounding the garden. The Knott, Prison Crag, Brock Crags, Gray Crag and Hartsop Dodd are just a few of the dramatic fells which can be seen from the back garden. Garden furniture is provided. Guest access Green Bank is reached along a farm track maintained by the farmer. It does become pot-holed from time to time, and then it just needs to be taken slowly. It forms part of a small cluster of characterful cottages and barn. There is parking for two cars approx 15m from the front door. Green Bank is only really suitable for those coming by car, as its remote situation means it is not accessible by public transport, and shops and other amenities are a drive away. Other things to note In mid- and high-season I accept bookings of one or two full weeks with check-in / check-out on Saturday. In the winter months I accept short stays of four nights or more and can be more flexible on check-in and check-out day. Supermarket vans can't get close enough to the cottage to deliver: if you don't fancy stocking up before your journey I heartily recommend taking in Booths in Windermere – or Penrith – en route; R&R Corner Shop in Glenridding is great for everyday needs and newspapers etc. Hot water is generated by Aquafficient, an electric device which heats the water as it passes through it. It is perfectly sufficient for showers but is not up to heating enough water for baths. While I don't take pets, please be aware that my Labrador accompanies us when we stay here, so the cottage isn't suited to those with dog allergies. Green Bank is unsuitable for infants and small children: there are stone floors throughout and stone steps; and a small beck and pond in the garden. See also above re baths. Please note that the front door is approached via some traditional Lakeland slate steps; and parts of the garden – being at the foot of a fell – are uneven and on an incline. Wi-fi – BT Full Fibre has come to Green Bank with speeds in excess of 135Mb download and 30Mb upload.
