Description

Nestled at 8,580 feet in one of the best kept secret valleys between Gunnison and Montrose, relax in an authentic family log cabin with views that will take your breath away. While a little rustic, all the creature comforts are there and we are adding little refinements all the time. Great for quiet reflective retreats, but also connected to high-speed internet so you can remote work. We would love to share it with responsible guests as we want it to be a blessing for others. The space This is a down to earth modest family log cabin that we have been restoring, not a luxury log home. Because of our British and Norwegian family connections, we have named it Fjellheimen - which translated from Norwegian is 'Mountain Home'. We hope if you chose to stay a few nights or even a couple of weeks, that you find our little mountain home in the fresh clean air of the rockies as restorative as we have. Far away from city lights and distractions, our little mountain home is 12 miles up a well maintained county road and is about 45 minutes from our nearest town. We have incredible drinking water from a mountain spring and all the other usual modern refinements such as electricity and central heat. We would describe this cabin as ideal for those who want to experience some level of country living in a rustic log cabin without roughing it. Guest access Year round access is maintained, but in the winter all wheel or four wheel drive vehicles are highly advised because sometimes it takes a bit for the road to be plowed after a major storm. Late spring, summer and autumn, cars are suitable. ** Please note, cell phones don't work at the cabin, so you will need to use our WiFi or give out the cabin number to your friends to make contact. Other things to note Located in the Big Cimarron Valley between Gunnison and Montrose, a few miles up the road from our cabin are thousands of acres of National Forest and BLM. Lake and stream fishing can be done with a license and there are many trails, some of which lead to 14k peaks to be climbed, with the most popular being Uncompahgre. If you enjoy ATVing, there are a few trails up the valley and the East, Middle and West Fork Valleys are definitely worth exploring. If you wish to explore old ghost towns and 4 x 4 ing is your thing, a popular thing to do is to go over Owl Creek pass, drop into Ridgeway, then head to Silverton to take the Alpine Loop through Animas Forks to Lake City and then return via Blue Mesa. This is also the filming grounds of the original John Wayne True Grit movie - so you can watch it in our DVD player and then do a day trip to visit the sites in the area. (websearch for 'True Grit, Then and Now, John Wayne filming locations'). You will likely never run out of things to do, and if in the rare chance you do, just sit on the deck and soak up the beautiful views in the fresh mountain air!
