Treehaven: cozy 1825 farm house with mountain view

This house is perfect for family gatherings, friends or a retreat. Some artists have chosen the place for inspiration. In this quirky 1825 post and beam farmhouse, the emphasis is on old fashioned simplicity as opposed to luxury. A solitary writer, cyclists, wedding attendees, and Middlebury College families can connect to the area including Breadloaf programs, graduations, skiing, hiking, foliage, mountains and lakes, and local communities. The space This is a very old house, filled with light and space. The open floor plan features simple period furniture, irregular wide pine floor boards that are creaky in places, and there's a large field stone fireplace with efficient wood stove. It sleeps up to eight or nine in the four bedrooms. There are three four-poster twin beds, a single sleigh bed, a queen-sized bed and a king-sized brass bed. The third bedroom has a full bed and fourth has twin beds. The kitchen is well equipped. The 200 year old house tells the story of generations care and Vermont construction methods over time with funny little details you will explore during your stay. Here you are surrounded by original fine art by Sanford Ross, Sanford Wintersberger, Cassandra Hughes and others. The base of a former porch allows a long view to the Adirondacks. The house is set back from a dirt road. The lawn is green in summer under tall maples. Birds are prevalent. We are allowing the fields to naturally return to forest for the sake of the climate. If you like, you are welcome to walk around our fields to enjoy nature. Guest access Guests use the original, wonderful antique house including living and dining area, kitchen, bedrooms and baths containing period furniture to take you back in time. Linens and towels are supplied. There is a place to sit outside on the former porch site under mature maple trees with a view of the Adirondacks. The owners live in a connected but separate building. The Airbnb is family run. Other things to note The open plan of the large first floor allows for conversation while cooking or playing games, etc. The house is heated with an effective wood stove and a cold climate heat pump. Old fashioned ventilators allow heat to rise to two of the second floor bedrooms, so in winter be prepared with a warm bathrobe and slippers. The heat pump does a good job and the wood stove is cozy. Heat from the oil furnace can supplement if needed. Electric space heaters and fans are available upstairs. Air conditioning is generated downstairs by the cold climate heat pump. There is strong WIFI for all who want to stay connected to the world. There is a large shower with a seat. To save energy, the on-demand water heater serves both houses and can fluctuate occasionally depending on use. As in all colder regions, in some seasons field mice try to get in but we now have a small cat on the farm who has shown herself to be a very effective mauser who might slip in unnoticed.
