Description

Named after the mountain that overlooks this room, guests staying in Pen Pych will have the entire house to themselves and will be treated to stunning views of the mountain and delightful garden and river, where herons, dippers and the occasional kingfisher can be spotted. Enjoy free wifi, Smart TV, on-site bike storage, and private or on-street parking. Ideal location for walking, cycling or just relaxing. Up to 2 dogs are welcome for an additional £20 pet fee per dog. Parking for 3 cars. The space Pen Pych is the middle bedroom in this lovely 3 bedroom end of terrace house known as Can yr Afon (Song of the River). Guest booking Pen Pych will have the house to themselves during their stay but will not be able to access the other 2 bedrooms (if you wish to book the whole house, please go to the listing for Can yr Afon). The bedroom boasts a large window with stunning views over the garden, the River Rhondda and the mountain after which the room is named, and which is one of just 2 table-top mountains in Europe. The bedroom has a lockable door, and there is a safe in the room for securely storing valuables. On arrival guests will find a welcoming refreshment pack of hot beverages, sugar, milk and cakes or biscuits. There is free superfast wifi, and soft fluffy towels and bath robes are also provided for guests to use during their stay. The bathroom with over-bath electric shower is just a few short steps along the landing, while downstairs there is also a shower room with a walk-in deluge shower, toilet and sink. The modern kitchen is fully equipped and includes a microwave and dishwasher, and there is a separate utility/boot room with laundry facilities. Smart TVs in the lounge and dining room give you access to a wide range of channels and your own Netflix account (if you have one). There is also a DVD player and a collection of DVDs for cosy nights in. For rainy days guests will find a selection of board games, and there is a variety of books and paperbacks available if you want to take yourself off to a quiet corner. If you need a workstation while you are away you will find sockets and USB points adjacent to the breakfast bar and the dining room table. Additional USB sockets can be found in the lounge and bedroom. Outside there is secure bike storage in the lockable workshop, and a hosepipe is available for cleaning muddy bikes, boots or dogs. Parking is either on-street at the front of the house, or there is further private parking available at the rear of the property if preferred. The house is tucked away at the end of a no-through road next to the site of the old Blaenrhondda railway station, where trains once stopped before continuing on through the Blaencwm tunnel (soon to reopen for walkers and cyclists) onto Bridgend and beyond. The old railway line is now a footpath leading to fabulous waterfall walks, stunning scenery and mountain hikes or bike rides, all within walking distance of the house. If you like a slower pace and enjoy fishing, permits are available to fish in the river that runs right past the garden. Or travel a little a short distance and fish from the Llyn Fawr while enjoying wonderful views over the Brecon Beacons. The local Upper Rhondda Angling Association also provide guides, and instruction for beginners or those who want to improve their technique. If you like shopping, history or the arts then Wales’ capital city Cardiff is just a 50 minute drive away with its fabulous shopping centres, theatres and historic castle. If you fancy a day at the beach then the stunning Gower peninsula (the 1st area in Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is just 1 hr in the other direction. A maximum of 2 dogs are welcome for an additional £20 each (please check the house rules). Owners must advise the host of their intention to bring pets prior to booking. Guest access There is roadside parking at the front of the house, and additional private parking in the lane at the rear of the house. We respectfully ask guests to avoid parking in front of neighbouring properties. Other things to note The house is an "end of terrace" house and is located at the end of a residential street.
