Lovely walks across open countryside lead to some of the best eateries in the area. Explore museums and galleries, and enjoy theatre, festivals and punting in historic Cambridge and Ely. The space The lodge is beautifully designed with a mix of modern, comfortable furniture, mid century lighting and accessories. The light and spacious living room overlooks an orchard with natural pond. It’s a fantastic place to relax and read, listen to music and just enjoy watching the wildlife. The pond attracts dragonflies and damselflies, finches, tits, wagtails and many other small birds, and even a visiting kingfisher. Its a wildlife haven, including newts and toads, woodpeckers, owls, and you may see the occasional badger. Outside there’s a private garden amongst the fruit trees with table, chairs and barbecue for delightful al fresco meals. There are comfortable chairs on the patio, and a Mexican hammock overlooking the pond. Our one minute YouTube film Rosemead Lodge, Cambridge, A Little Slice of Paradise gives a taste of what to expect. The kitchen is fully equipped with quality appliances and plenty of crockery. It’s a great place to cook, we have several nearby delicatessens and food stores and the lodge even has its own herb garden. There is deliberately no TV, but we have fast WiFi so you can stream movies on your laptop or tablet. The bedroom is very comfortable and cosy, and beautifully lit. We supply hypoallergenic bedding and Egyptian cotton bed linen. You are virtually guaranteed a good nights sleep. The en-suite shower room has a rain drench shower head and hand held attachment. It’s well stocked with quality toiletries and plenty of fluffy towels. During colder months the lodge is toasty warm with underfloor heating and constant hot water. There are plenty of warm, cosy blankets to make lounging around super snuggly. The building is extremely well ventilated, with velux roof lights and windows to all aspects. Huge picture windows bring in lots of light and wonderful views at any time of year. There’s a desk and chair for home working, and despite our rural location we benefit from super fast wifi. There’s no washing machine in the lodge but for longer stays we offer a laundry service. Guest access The lodge is for the sole use of our guests. Other things to note The lodge is situated in an old orchard overlooking a large natural pond, in a private and separate part of our garden. There’s a secluded alfresco dining area amongst the fruit trees with teak table and chairs and a BBQ with coals and the necessary tools. There are comfortable chairs on the patio and a Mexican hammock under the trees. We have some lovely sculptures in the rest of the gardens and beyond that there’s a meadow with places to sit and relax. The meadow leads to a public footpath network with some wonderful walks around the village and beyond. The lodge is part of a working small holding. We keep Coloured Ryeland sheep, one of England’s oldest breeds, which date back more than seven centuries. They are quite friendly and very cute. We also have free ranging hens (the source of our delicious eggs). In the spring and summer months we keep Gloucester Old Spot pigs. They’re very funny to watch, a source of great entertainment. Our guests are free to wander round and enjoy the animals, we just ask that you close any gates behind you. If you’re in the gardens or meadow you are likely to meet our flat coated retriever, Wilma, who is very friendly and enthusiastic! And we are often working outside, so do stop and say hello.
