The space Sani Lodge and Cottages is a Fair Trade Tourism certified establishment and the recipient of multiple awards for Responsible Tourism from Africa Responsible Tourism Awards in 2017, South Africa Tourism in 2023 and again in 2025. Sani Lodge and Cottages has a prime location on the Sani Pass Road and lies on 75 acres of land bordering directly on to the Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site, offering guests direct hiking access into the wilderness from the front door, and providing the perfect base for sports event participants from trail runners to mountain bikers. The South African border post is 16 kilometres further up the Sani Pass Road and the Lesotho border post is another 8 kilometres beyond that. Honeyguide is a cosy 5 sleeper farm cottage with a private wood-fired Hot tub and magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Please advise reception in advance when you want to use the Hot tub. It will take 4 to 5 hours to heat up the Hot Tub depending on whether it is summer or winter. It can be ready by 1 pm at the earliest. There are 2 bedrooms - double bed and twin beds with feather duvets and electric blankets, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a coffee maker, farm milk, an open log fireplace, and a braai stand. Parking is next to the cottage. There is no TV set. Hikes start from the cottage including the famous 5 day Giants Cup Trail. Free WIFI is available at the restaurant and bar 150 metres from the cottage. On-site restaurant serving wholesome meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner along with tea-time treats), and a licensed bar serving our specialty cocktails, craft beer, local wines and mixers. Boasting a shared outdoor swimming pool 150 metres from the cottage with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Relax on a chaise-lounge with one of our specialty cocktails. On-site Paint on Clay daily activity for the whole family. On-site Craft shop selling handmade goods including pottery made by the owner, books, Basotho blankets, candles, organic coffees and more. A nature trail with an informative guided booklet takes guests around our land, with benches to stop off at and enjoy the spectacular views of the escarpment with Lesotho. We also provide route descriptions of hikes from 1 to 4 days from here and sell entry permits on behalf of KZN wildlife. The UTD and Giant's Cup Trail runners descend Stromness Mountain behind the cottage and come through our land. The Sani Stagger begins 1 km from here. The Sani2C and Jhb2C as well as other mountain bike events all happen a few kilometres from here. Other things to note On arrival, guests must report to reception at Sani Lodge to check in. Reception hours are from 7am to 7 pm. It is not always manned but we are at the end of a cellphone during these hours only, with the number listed on the door which you may call on or send a message to. Please let us know in advance when you plan to arrive. There is a private wood-fired Hot tub at the cottage. Please advise reception in advance when you want to use the Hot tub. It will take 4 to 5 hours to heat up the Hot Tub depending on whether it is summer or winter. It can be ready by 1 pm at the earliest. If you are arriving later than 7pm, we shall leave a note and map on the door for you to find the cottage. There will not be anyone to show you to the cottage after 7pm so we advise you to arrive earlier than that. RULES AND REGULATIONS -The cottage is strictly non-smoking. -No TV or WIFI inside cottage. -Free WIFI available at on-site restaurant and bar only. -No pets allowed. -No drones allowed. -Do not feed the owner's pets or cattle. -Do not leave the fireplace burning logs when you are out. -Breakages to be reported immediately to reception. -No motorbikes to be started and left running, ridden on site or revved at any time during the day or night. - As a family destination for people to enjoy nature ,no music is allowed to be played by way of car radios or otherwise. - No noise tolerated before 8am or after 9.30pm. - On arrival, holders of reservations must produce proof of identification. -We do not provide a Room service facility. The Giant’s Cup Café is available for meals and the bar for drinks. DEPARTURE – at 10 am. Please make sure you return the cottage/room key to reception on departure.
