Eva’s Roost - Cozy Retreat Cabin
A private retreat space, Eva’s Roost is located at Center For Lost Arts near Cobden, Illinois. Uniquely crafted rustic, zen-style cottage, designed to be close to the earth & nature. Extensive, curtainless windows facing the forest & pond allow for private views: sunrise, moonrise, forest & wildlife. Yoga mat, guitar & some art supplies. Personal outdoor space with firepit & comfy adirondack chairs. Entrance to wandering trails right outside your back door. The space Settle into your private retreat space, while having access to gardens, trails, & pond. Guests can completely unwind, unplug & reconnect with themselves, their companion & with nature. We grow food organically and there is no pesticide use on the property. There’s no guarantee of dependable wifi in the country so it’s best to bring a hotspot if you're needing to work. The cabin is simple with a woodstove, bathroom with shower, sitting area, table & chairs & queen size bed. A small kitchen includes: mini-fridge, toaster oven, induction plate, air fryer, air popper, french press, kettle, dishes & basic cooking supplies and doubles as a storm shelter if ever needed. A small Weber grill is available outside(bring your own charcoal & lighter fluid). Some guests also cook over the fire. The recently installed heating cooling pump is quiet and efficient. During the very coldest times in winter the heaters alone are usually not enough to keep the cabin toasty so the woodstove is a must. If you need assistance in learning to start and maintain an indoor fire, Paul or Bonnie can show you how. You can also enjoy an outdoor fire pit with adirondack chairs facing the pond(guests collect their own wood for outdoor fires - chopped & stacked wood is for indoor woodstove only). Those who enjoy interesting architecture and naturally wild settings will love Eva's Roost, Tiny House of Paul and the surrounding property. We also have a strawbale house under construction in the back corner of our property. You can see it while you're out for a walk. We are a place of retreat for guests while enjoying the homesteading aspect of cultivating food in the garden, greenhouse and the forest. Paul has a full-time apprentice who lives in the main house. You will find them most days in the workshop making furniture to sell. Bonnie is happy to set you up with some art supplies or meet for a Mindful Living session(for a fee). Paul & Bonnie are happy to answer questions or show you around. Guest access Located a mile from Cobden, close to amenities as needed. Farm fresh & organic food can be ordered in advance. Ask your host. Enjoy the walking trails, gardens and check out our greenhouse. We leave different kinds of books in both the spaces we rent, but we have a main library if you're interested in choosing a book. We can also give you a tour of the main house if you're interested. We cannot guarantee dependable wifi in the country. It's best to bring a hotspot if you have online commitments. We offer guests a space inside the main house for wifi if it's not working well at the cabin. Other things to note We hope people are able to bring a dog bed or a crate. We love dogs and understand that guests like to bring them along. Don't worry about picking up after your dog when out on walks, unless it's on the lawn or in the garden. Dogs should be leashed but there’s a nice off-leash run at the back of the property if your dog needs that exercise. You can use a stick to flick poop off the trails.
