Minutes from wineries, antiques, J. Madison's home
The Pembroke (Room #1) is a second-floor room in the historic Holladay House, located in downtown Orange, Virginia. Guests in the Pembroke enjoy: * Living in the ca. 1830 portion of the house * Use of the recently renovated parlor, study, and dining room areas * A combination of historic decor and modern conveniences * Free off-street parking * Walking distance to all sights in Orange, short drive to James Madison's Montpelier, Jefferson's Monticello, Monroe's Highland, wineries, and more! Staying at the Holladay House is taking a step into American history. One previous owner was a grand-nephew of President James Madison, and his daughter's wedding reception in the house counted J.E.B. Stuart among its guests. There are five other guest bedrooms in the Holladay House: three others on the second floor and two on the walk-out basement floor. Your hosts live in a suite on the first floor. Inside, guests have access to the 1F dining room with beverage station, study, and parlor. Outside, guests can enjoy the gardens in back, a back balcony, a back porch, and a side porch. During the day, guests may be sharing the parlor or dining room with walk-in tea & coffee customers. We love hearing our guests' stories, but are just as happy giving space to those who want it. We live in the house and are normally in/near Orange during guest stays. To find us, call/message, holler', or knock on our suite door. Orange is in the heart of Virginia's piedmont, known for: * Horse farms * Wineries * Up-and-coming micro-brewery, distillery, cidery scenes * Civil War history * Antiquing * Gorgeous views * Being a ridgeline away from the Shenandoah Valley Orange is highly walkable; sights outside the town require a car to visit. There are also transportation services available for winery tours. The Pembroke Room's bathroom is across the hall, and has a sign on it indicating that it is only for use use by Pembroke guests. All other guest rooms have en suite bathrooms, so there is no reason for other guests to use your bathroom. The bathroom is separate because the Pembroke Room is in the oldest portion of the house, built before the US had running water. ***** The room has streaming TV provided by Xfinity. There is a lot of content available, but if you are looking for a particular show or sports game, guests are welcome to view them on their own device with their own streaming service. ***** The windows in the Pembroke are very old (neat!) and have not been painted shut for decades.
