Portbahn was our family home before moving to Jura, and we hope you'll find it as welcoming as we did. This modern waterfront house sits right on Islay's scenic coastal route with stunning loch views. Sleeps 8 across 3 ground-floor bedrooms—perfect for families. Large enclosed garden with trampoline and swings. Walk to Bruichladdich Distillery (10 mins), beaches, and coastal paths. Underfloor heating and wood-burner make it cosy year-round. Dogs welcome. Your island home awaits! The space The House Portbahn is a bright, modern home designed for comfort and togetherness. All 3 bedrooms are on the ground floor—perfect for families with young children or guests who prefer single-level living. The master bedroom has an ensuite shower room, and there's a spacious family bathroom plus an additional upstairs toilet. The heart of the home is the open-plan living space where kitchen, dining room, lounge, and sun-filled conservatory flow together. Wide windows frame stunning sea views across Loch Indaal—you'll find yourself lingering over breakfast just to watch the light change on the water. The large dining table seats 8 comfortably, perfect for long meals, board game marathons, or settling in with a dram and good conversation. Entertainment is covered with a Smart TV, FreeSat, DVD player with our curated film collection, Bluetooth sound system for your playlists, and shelves of books and games. And when the evening cools, the wood-burning stove and underfloor heating keep everything toasty—winter stays are just as cosy as summer ones. The Garden Step outside to your private, fully-fenced garden overlooking the loch. Kids make a beeline for the sunken trampoline and swings (endless entertainment!). There's a built-in BBQ by the deck for al fresco dining and another portable BBQ in the garage, outdoor picnic table and bench for sunny afternoons, and plenty of space for dogs to roam safely. The garden is genuinely special—mature, well-maintained, and those loch views never get old. Parking is easy with ample space on the private driveway. Location, Location You're literally on the coastal walking and cycling route between Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte. Walk 10 minutes one way to Bruichladdich village (shop, post office, excellent coffee and toasties) and the distillery for tours. Walk 20 minutes the other way along the coast to Port Charlotte (restaurants, pubs, Museum of Islay Life, stunning beaches). Or head down to the shore for wild swimming, beachcombing, and wildlife watching—seals, otters, and seabirds are your neighbours. Portbahn beach is the nearest beach and is excellent and safe for wild swims. Port Charlotte beach is best for young children. A Note About Privacy & Security For everyone's peace of mind, we have WiFi Ring doorbells pointing outward at the driveway (motion-activated, recording 24/7). We can access these via the Ring app if needed. There are absolutely NO cameras inside the property—your privacy indoors is complete. Well-Behaved Dogs Welcome! We're a dog-friendly house (£25 per pet per stay). The fenced garden and coastal walks make this a brilliant base for traveling with your four-legged friends. Traveling with a Bigger Group? There is also an upstairs toilet available. The following areas are secured and retained for the use of the owners only; upstairs storage area, the garage, out-houses, some wardrobes and cupboards. We may require access to the out-houses, polytunnel and shed for garden maintenance. We will contact you in advance if this occurs during your stay. Other things to note Small details: * Bed linen and bath towels are provided, but not beach towels. * Electricity and heating are provided free of charge. We charge for extra logs for the wood burning stove, and the first basket is free. * As dogs are welcome at Portbahn, please be aware if you have allergies. We charge a Pet Fee of £15 per pet. However we have recently discovered that this fee is not always charged at the point of booking. If you are not charged a Pet Fee, please could you message us and we will send details of how to pay.
