Description
This is an outstanding property, offering extensive and stunning views of the buffer zone of the Ujscie Warty National Park (Warta River-Mouth National Park). It's located near Polish-German border and only 100 km from Berlin. You will be guaranteed to rest and recharge in this quiet, relatively unspoilt part of Poland. The space The house is comfortably decorated with a country-style kitchen, equipped with all modern amenities, including a dishwasher. Three bedrooms are air-conditioned for your comfort in the summer. The property is child-friendly and includes an outdoor playground and climbing frame. There are two bathrooms, with two shower units and a corner bath to soak into. There is a spacious sitting and dining area, four bedrooms with double and twin rooms, and an additional convertible sofa-bed downstairs. Altogether, it can accommodate up to 9 people. Guest access There are lots of walking and cycling trails to follow and enjoy (bikes can be rented out on request), several of which start right outside the property. The area is also historically important. ‘Sonnenburg’ was a German town until the end of World War Two, with a concentration camp, prisoner of war camp and ammunition factory; remains of all these facilities can be seen/found, and there is a museum giving a great deal of information. The house is close to the border town of Kostrzyn, where the Berlin offensive across the Oder started in 1945. The remains of the old town are a sobering reminder of the price that has to be paid in total war. Kostrzyn was also the citadel for a ring of outlying Prussian fortresses, three of which are ruined, but, for the adventurous, can be found in the woods. Close by, there is also a thirteenth century Knights Templar chapel, with its original frescoes, and the site of the one of the bloodiest battles in Seven Years War. It is true to say that the beauty and tranquillity of the area today bear little resemblance to the violence and bloodshed that has been spilt at different periods in the past. Other things to note And you will be delighted with the morning and evening flights of Common Cranes and geese Sep-Feb. With its extensive wetlands, floodplains, river systems and bordering woodland, this is an important area ecologically, especially for migrating and nesting birds. Early starts should also allow you to encounter wild boar and beavers, as well as more common mammals, such as deer and foxes.
