Historic Gamekeeper's Carriage House
Historic Gamekeeper's Carriage House
Description
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Gamekeeper’s Residence and Carriage House were once part of the vast Osgood Estate, also known as the Redstone Castle, in Redstone Colorado. The space The Carriage House sits on 5 acres of forested grounds bordering public lands. Just a few steps from the Crystal River, this historic cottage boasts a master bedroom (queen bed), sleeping loft (two twin beds and a trundle daybed that converts to a king), two full baths, a woodstove, well stocked kitchen, and a gorgeous setting. Also included is a private hot tub, horseshoe area and a stunning hiking trail that starts directly from the property. Located just across the river from the Redstone Castle, the Carriage House is less than ½ mile from the village of Redstone and its array of shops, galleries and restaurants. The Carriage Houe is everything you would expect in a mountain getaway. The main living room features vaulted ceilings, flat screen TV, a large bay window and a classic woodstove, taking the chill off those cool fall and winter evenings. The fully equipped kitchen offers a breakfast bar and borders the dining area with its custom antler chandelier and ranch furnishings. The master suite looks out over the grounds and the bath has heated floors plus the original soaking tub with a shower. There is a walk-in closet with robes for going to the hot tub or just lounging around the cottage. The comfortable loft combines a generous reading area, built in twin beds with reading lights, a full bath, washer and dryer and is bathed in natural light. Outside you will find a professionally maintained, private hot tub to soothe the body after a day of hiking, skiing, biking or snowshoeing. There is also a BBQ grill, horseshoe pit, picnic table and comfortable chairs for enjoying the forested site. A trail leaves the north side of the property and meanders up to a quiet amphitheater that hosts a significant ice climbing feature in the winter. Snowshoes are available free for guests of the cottage during the winter months. We also have lightweight canvas chairs for relaxing on the banks of the Crystal River (one of the last undammed rivers in the State) Due to the abundance and regularity of wildlife visiting the property, pets are not allowed. We consistently have deer, elk, fox, bear and this year a moose walked across the yard in front of the carriage house! Our area, the Crystal River Valley, is unique in many ways. We are fortunate to have two National Forests, the White River and Gunnison, and two Wilderness Areas, the Maroon Bells/Snowmass Wilderness and The Raggeds Wilderness, bordering the valley. There are numerous trailheads up and down the valley for hiking access and spectacular jeep roads out of Marble that will take you to the ghost town of Crystal and it’s famous mill, Lead King Basin and even to Crested Butte when conditions permit.
