The Blue Door Cabin

If you want a retreat where you can sleep in, slow down and savor nature's beauty, the Blue Door Cabin, tucked in surprisingly hilly oak and hickory woods, with a beautiful view of the pond, is your destination. Within two hours from Kansas City, Tulsa, Joplin or Wichita, and only 4 miles from Chanute Kansas, this preserved and revived cabin offers an easy getaway for city dwellers in need of a very affordable anniversary weekend, study or solitude retreat, or family hiking and fishing trip. The space In the 30's the 27 acre property had several natural gas well and service roads through the hilly woods. The trails remain and are absolutely perfect for hiking and wild animal sightings. Need some exercise while you are enjoying your retreat? We got it. Bring your hiking shoes. The gate at the entry is essentially the SE corner of the 40 acre square that will be available for you to explore. Two fishing poles, a dock and a couple of light-weight stools are available for all guests. Catch and release and enjoy the serenity. A fire pit with zero gravity chairs is nestled next to the pond, and near the cabin for your s'mores and story-telling campfire adventure. We provide a complimentary start of firewood (5-6 logs) for every reservation. Need more? Available on site for $5 a bundle of 5 logs. Interested in grilling? We have a park-style charcoal grill just off the porch available for use. Bring your charcoal and lighter fluid and get grilling! Guest access The Blue Door Cabin owns the land surrounding the pond - all trails on the west, east and north side of the pond are for you to enjoy. However, the trail next to the entrance gate will quickly lead you off property. The garage near the gate is rented and not available for Blue Door Cabin guests. Other things to note 1. We do not have Wi-fi or screens of any kind . . . on purpose. 2. We do not allow pets inside the Blue Door Cabin. We love our pets and we know you adore yours too, but we are firm on our "No pets inside" policy.
