Some recommendations for things to see in Mallorca: Mallorca is an island rich in history and cultural value, as well as having a lot of charm, as we have already seen in previous posts such as the beautiful landscapes of Mallorca or Cala Ratjada. Being the largest island in the Balearic Islands, and by far, there is a great variety of places to visit and things to see in Mallorca. What's more, there's a bit of everything; for those in search of peace, tranquility, and breathtaking views of nature, the island's beaches, mountains, and cliffs will leave unforgettable memories; and for those who prefer ancient buildings or sites to see in Mallorca, there are also plenty. Then there is also the option of surrounding yourself with people and enjoying the activity of the most populated areas of the island… There is something for everyone! The only difficult thing here is knowing where to start. You could go anywhere on the island and find a place to enjoy and take good memories of what you could see in Mallorca. Whether it's the spectacular beaches on the east or north coast, the tremendous mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana in the northwest, or the unforgettable buildings of the capital, Palma de Mallorca, in the southwest. It all depends on what you are specifically looking for; although there is also the option of taking a tour of the island and trying to include everything there is to see in Mallorca in your visit, depending on the time you have available. Charming places to see in Mallorca - Palma It's only fair to start with the capital, which is also the busiest place on the island; almost half of the population of all Mallorca resides here and it is where the airport of Palma de Mallorca is located, the main one on the island through which all visitors pass. Palma is a city with a lot of history hidden in its buildings and streets, so it deserves at least a day or two to enjoy it and be part of its culture. Palma has been dominated by many different cultures; from the Talayotic of the Iron Age, to the Roman Empire two thousand years ago, which was later replaced by the Islamic conquest, which in turn was replaced by the reign of King James I of Aragon on December 31, 1229. The mixture of all these cultures is reflected in the architecture of Palma and that of the rest of the island, making everything worth seeing in Mallorca even more so. Here are some of the most important buildings of interest to see in Palma: Palma Cathedral. Work on this building began in the 13th century and took more than a century to complete. The cathedral is truly impressive; it measures 121 meters long and 55 meters wide. A picture is worth a thousand words, so here you go. And if you find it imposing on the outside, wait until you see it on the inside. Bellver Castle. Built in the early 14th century on a mountain that exceeds 100 meters above sea level, this round castle is one of the oldest in Europe from where you can see everything from the city and the port to the Serra de Tramuntana to the north. The Royal Palace of La Almudaina. It is a very old palace and currently a residence of the Royal Family. It was built in the 14th century. The promenade, Plaza Cort, Parc de la Mar, Plaza Mayor, Calle San Miguel... Other corners in Mallorca: - Sóller Changing the subject, this town in the northwest personifies the essence of the island, and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places within everything there is to see in Mallorca. In contrast to Palma de Mallorca, the population in Sóller barely reaches 15,000, which contributes to its more private and special character. The landscapes of this area are so beautiful that they would not do justice by describing them in words; the countless orange and lemon trees in the area are to be seen with your own eyes, as well as the area of Port de Sóller. What's even better is that the island's largest mountainous area, the Serra de Tramuntana, (In June 2011, the Serra's cultural landscape was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO) is not far from Sóller, so you can enjoy some hiking in the area and enjoy privileged views of the rest of the island and the Mediterranean from there. - Santa Ponsa. A tourist area to the southwest in the municipality of Calviá.Pollença. A village in the north of the island near some of the most beautiful paradisiacal beaches. It is also close to the Serra de Tramuntana. - Puerto Portals. This is a luxurious area in the southwest that centers around its prestigious port. A sunset stroll along its promenade never disappoints. And if you're here, you'll also have the opportunity to try the top-quality dishes in their exclusive VALLDEMOSSA A visit to this picturesque village is a must. There, you can visit the Palace of King Sancho and the Royal Charterhouse where the musician Frederic Chopin and the writer Georges Sand spent the winter of 1835 together. You will discover the neoclassical church and different rooms where the legacy of the monks, personal objects of the composer, his piano, an art space and an art gallery are exhibited. If you go to Valldemossa, towards the village of Deia, you have to stop at Sa Foradada where you will appreciate spectacular views of the cliffs, sunsets etc. When it's time for a snack, go to the village bakeries and try the local specialty, coca de patata (potato cake). DEIA Wonderful small typical village where the houses are grouped around the church. Behind the church is the cemetery, from there you will have an incredible view over the village, the mountain to the right and the sea to the left. A winding road crosses an olive grove leading to the cove of Deia. It is in this village that you will find "La Residencia", a 5-star luxury hotel where many celebrities have slept, including Lady Di, Michael Douglas, Tom Hanks, and many more. FORNALUTX A medieval village surrounded by lemon and orange groves. The paved alleys around the church offer a charming walk. ORIENT The village of Orient is hidden in the Orient Valley. There are beautiful excursions to take around this town. SA CALOBRA AND THE TORRENT DEL PAREIS One of the most charming spots is the Torrent de Pareis, a landscape that looks like giants, with an excessive scale and a nature of great romanticism (do not venture without a guide). It flows into Sa Calobra, which can be reached by a very winding road, or also aboard one of the tourist boats that leave from the Port de Sóller. SANTUARIO DE LLUC The spiritual center of the island of Mallorca. Located slightly uphill, at the foot of the Tramuntana LA GRANJA – ESPORLES You can spend a pleasant day with family or friends on this Mallorcan estate surrounded by figures who will invite you to share Mallorcan culture: gastronomy and free tastings of local handicrafts, folklore. The farm animals will delight the little ones. On Wednesdays you can attend traditional and popular dances and also an equestrian show. THE GARDENS OF ALFABIA - BUNYOLA The fabulous Alfabia Gardens are of Arab origin. You will see lush vegetation: palm trees, orange trees, lemon trees and many more plants and flowers. The Alfabia property belongs to the Zaforteza family and is open to the public who can stroll through the different rooms of this 12th century house and the magnificent garden. THE CAVES OF ARTÀ This work of art by nature can be visited on foot by walking a mile of natural galleries. Incredibly large stalagmites (up to about 22 meters!) CUEVAS DE DRACH (DRACH CAVES) - PORTOCRISTO The Drach Caves are undoubtedly the most popular on the island of Mallorca. It has a 1 km route that passes through 6 lower lakes. CAP DE FORMENTOR Located at the northern tip of the island of Mallorca, between the mountains and the sea, El Cap de Formentor offers breathtaking panoramic views. THE MILLS OF MALLORCA In the past, life in the Mallorcan countryside revolved around wheat, water, or oil mills. At that time, wheat production was very important on the island. You will find them mainly in the region of Pla de Sant Jordi, Campos, Muro and Sa Pobla. SANTANYÍ, SES SALINES AND CAMPOS In these three towns in the south of Mallorca you can find the best coves and beaches with crystal clear water. Highlights: Es Trenc, Es Carbó, S'Amarador, Cala Mondragó, Cala S'Almunia, Cala Llombards, Caló des Moro... In addition, boats leave every day from Colonia de Sant Jordi to visit the Cabrera archipelago, a natural park where you can visit Sa Cova Blava, the castle, the beach, etc. Registration details Spain – National registration number ESFCTU0000070080002311130000000000000000000VT/1035024
