Description

Welcome to the guesthouse at the monastery gate Steingaden! The "Girodano Bruno" is a single room of our house on the first floor. East side, morning sun, facing the cathedral/monastery courtyard. High room with barrel vault, window in the monastery courtyard overlooking the cathedral, directly above the gate. The room, with a stone floor made of travertine, its murals and its high-quality furniture, the indirect lighting of the vault, is intended to take into account the centuries of history of this room and yet offer all the necessary, modern comfort that makes your stay an unforgettable experience. The "Giordano Bruno" can be reached via a separate entrance, directly in the monastery gate, via a staircase and the foyer. It is located in the vaulted arch directly above the gate to the interior of the former monastery. From the window you have a view of the old farm buildings, the courtyard and the cathedral. For the stylishly furnished bathroom that you use together with the "Principessa Nera" and the "Gerolamo Cardano", you will receive a basket with everything you need, such as towels, soap, slippers, bathrobe. Everything will of course be replaced daily if necessary. The room has a minibar with soft drinks and an espresso machine. Consumption here is free / included, as far as non-alcoholic. The minibar is filled daily by room service. Breakfast is included and we are happy to serve it to you in our new attraction, the delicatessen "Der Zeidelbär" and prepare it according to a selection and your wishes from high-quality, as far as possible regional products. (Breakfast is plentiful. However, some extras are subject to a fee, e.g. scrambled eggs, prosecco or champagne) Not suitable for children or disabled people (therefore we unfortunately only rent to adults), not wheelchair accessible, steep stairs in historic buildings. Named after GIORDANO BRUNO: The great scholar Giordano Bruno, born in 1548 in Nola, was a priest, poet, philosopher and astronomer. He postulated the infinity of space and its eternal duration, he believed in the infinity of God's love and his omnipresence and did not want to believe that we should fear God and the Last Judgment. Nor did he believe that it was necessary to regard the world as the center of the cosmos, but that we should not stop believing in the possibility of the existence of many other worlds, beyond the limited possibilities of our mind. And he probably also thought that this at best elevated God and his creation. But this was not the opinion of Pope Clement VIII, who imprisoned and tortured him for 7 years to force him to change his views. But Giordano was obviously firm in his love and faith. On February 17, 1600, his tongue was tied because they were afraid he could speak to the people and he was burned on the Campo de' Fiori in Rome, his writings banned. But his writings survived and influenced scholars and poets such as Pierre Gassendi, Baruch de Spinoza, Lucilio Vanini, Friedrich Schelling, Galileo Galilei, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Nietzsche and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. We hardly dare to mention that the Catholic Church today (since 2000) describes the condemnation as unjust, because it took 400 years for this simple realization. The vault in which you are staying here was almost a hundred years old during Giordano Bruno's lifetime. And we want to contribute to remembering these great scholars. And to all who today, like him then, stand up for something that you consider true and worthy, even against the rest of the world.
