The 6,500 acres of heathland is an unusual UK habitat for rare birds and plentiful wildlife with national and international protection. Ashdown Forest is also renowned as the home of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh. As well as the Ashdown Forest, there are many National Trust properties, castles and gardens to explore all within an easy drive: Penshurst Place and Gardens, Chiddingstone, Scotney and Hever Castles, Sheffield Park and Gardens. There is also the Bluebell Railway at Sheffield Park and the Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells. Royal Tunbridge Wells is about 10 miles away and offers a wide range of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. The Sussex coastline is about an hour's drive away and you can hire bikes in Forest Row.
