Description
A peaceful place to relax on the shore of Lake Ontario, right on the point of Pillar Point. Enjoy the gentle breeze, lapping waves, and tranquil space. Take in the sunset almost every evening. You will find everything you need for a quiet, restorative getaway. Swim, kayak, read, reflect. A perfect hermitage for clergy, couples, and those who serve and care for others. The space Sunset Cottage is located in a rural area about 10 miles from Dexter NY and 10 miles from Chaumont NY, both small towns have a small grocery, laundromat, Dollar General, dinner, and wine store. The cottage is a hermitage setting located at the end of a driveway that services several private cottages and homes. It is a very safe area. The cottage has an open floor plan with one bedroom and one bathroom. The big window in the living room overlooks the water allowing you watch the waves, especially when the wind is too gusty to be outside. Sunset Cottage, most days, lives up to its name with each day ending in a unique sunset. There is usually a breeze, sometimes a gale, so bring a warm jacket and hat. Clouds and storms provide great opportunities for journaling and reflection. At night, listen to the sounds of the water as you drift off to sleep. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking or grilling. Pots and pans, coffee maker, microwave, electric stove, and plenty of plates, silverware, etc. The gas grill, including propane is located on the east side deck. The bathroom has a tub/shower, vanity, and plenty of towels. Inside Sunset Cottage you will find prompts for some contemplative practices to deepen your time. If you need to reflect with someone during your stay, your host, Carol, can usually accommodate with a day or so notice. The hermitage is open May - October. Please send an inquiry of your interest and needs. It is perfect for clergy and those who serve and care for others. Guest access We like to welcome our guests when they arrive to wish them a pleasant stay. You'll have access to the water right down a few steps in front of the cottage. There are two kayaks (including life jackets) that you can use if the water is calm. There is a small front and back yard space around the cottage. Fire pit and gas grill are included. There are two decks for outside sitting. One on the east side to take in the growing light of the morning. The other on the west near the water, to gather the graces in the evening. You'll have access to two bicycles if you'd like to bike out to the roadway that follows the waters edge. The terrain is flat. Other things to note July and August we have a three night minimum. Receive a 10% discount for 7 nights. Please note that we have no control over the wind. It can be gusty and chilly depending on the season. The summer months are lovely, generally, with occasional storms, which are amazing to watch. The fall is a favorite time of year, since the water is still warm, and has the beauty of the changing seasons.
