As for the weather, the Whitsundays boasts a tropical climate with hot, humid summers, mild winters, and glorious spring and autumn days. Temperatures range from around 23°C in winter (June and July) to up to 30°C in the peak of summer (December and January). The water remains invitingly warm at around 25°C for most of the year. During the tropical wet season (January to March), expect steamy days and occasional nighttime tropical rain. Be prepared for wet weather, especially in February. Cyclones can occur during this period, so stay informed and take necessary precautions. Fly to Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast), Hamilton Island or Mackay (1.5hrs south) airports - Jetstar / Virgin / Qantas Arrival suggestions: Fly to Hamilton Island, easy ferry ride to Airlie Beach, pick up your pre-arranged hire car, grab some groceries for your stay then come on out to Shute Harbour and put your feet up by the pool; or Fly to Proserpine Whitsunday Coast (or Mackay) airport, pick up your pre-arranged hire car at the airport, 1/2 hour drive to Airlie beach, or 1.5hrs from Mackay, buy some groceries then continue on to Shute Harbour. The local bus runs from Shute Harbour Ferry Terminal into Airlie Beach and on to Proserpine every 20 minutes throughout the day on weekdays and less often on weekends. A taxi fare from Airlie Beach to Shute Harbour is approximately $50AU. ----- Because we are out of town, we strongly suggest that you hire a car to get the most from your holiday. HOW TO GET THERE: Fly to Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine PPP), Hamilton Island or Mackay (1.5hrs south) airports - Jetstar / Virgin / Qantas Arrival suggestions: Fly to Whitsunday Coast Proserpine (or Mackay) airport, pick up your pre-arranged rental car at the airport, 1/2 hour drive to Airlie beach, (or 1.5hrs from Mackay), buy some groceries then continue on to Shute Harbour. Fly to Hamilton Island, easy ferry ride to Airlie Beach, pick up your pre-arranged rental car. Buy some groceries for your stay then come on out to Shute Harbour and put your feet up by the pool. There is an airport shuttle bus from the airport to Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, approx $30. A taxi fare from Airlie Beach to Shute Harbour is approx $45. ----- Because we are out of town, we strongly suggest that you RENT A CAR to get the most from your holiday. Pre arrival: Two suggestions which will can make your stay super special: 1. Make sure you have your transport pre-organized (hire car etc) as we are 8km from Airlie Beach. (we have all the major car rental businesses). Check the car rental opening hours in relation to your flight day/time. 2. There’s a couple of (unaffiliated) businesses who deliver platters and food hampers – if you are arriving late for example, it’s nice to have a food hamper here waiting for you so you can just put your feet up and watch the view. You can pre-order a platter or food hamper and have it waiting for you!
