Double room for 2 guests with 25m² in Steingaden (121778)

Description

Welcome to the guesthouse at the monastery gate Steingaden! The "Gerolamo Cardano" is a large cross-vaulted hall on the first floor of our house, suitable for 1-2 adults. West side, evening sun, facing the monastery stream and the residential area, outside the monastery walls. Private, large balcony, additional sink in the room. In winter, a wood pellet stove spreads cozy warmth. Spacious room with high cross vault and a floor made of noble travertine. Other things to note The "Gerolamo Cardano" can be reached via a separate entrance, directly in the monastery gate and the foyer. The camera is a spacious, bright cross-vaulted hall, in historic, almost one meter thick sandstone walls that protect well from the cold in winter and provide pleasant coolness in summer. It is located on the 2nd floor directly overlooking the Klosterbach, which you can see directly from a sunny balcony. You can see the residential area outside the monastery walls. For the stylishly furnished bathroom that you use together with the "Giordano Bruno" and the "Camera della Principessa Nera", you will receive a basket with everything you need, such as towels, soap, slippers and bathrobe. Everything will of course be replaced daily if necessary. In the "Gerolamo Cardano" you also have your own sink in the room. The room has a minibar with soft drinks and an espresso machine. Consumption here is free / included, as far as non-alcoholic. The minibar is filled daily by room service. Breakfast is not included, but can be arranged with us after booking. We are happy to serve it to you in our breakfast loggia and prepare it according to a selection and your wishes from high-quality, as far as possible regional products. Not suitable for children or disabled people (therefore we unfortunately only rent to adults), not wheelchair accessible, steep stairs in historic buildings. About the patron saint GEROLAMO CARDANO: Gerolamo Cardano was an Italian physician, philosopher and mathematician. He is considered one of the last universal scholars of the Italian Renaissance. He was the presumably illegitimate son of a Milanese jurist, a friend of Leonardo da Vinci, and was born in Pavia in 1501. He was smart, curious, inquisitive and an excellent student. And since he was all too happy to speak out the truths he had tried to discover, he made many enemies. Since he came from neither a rich nobleman nor a rich merchant family, his financial resources were always scarce, his prosperity changeable. He held numerous professorships and taught subjects such as medicine, mathematics, philosophy, comparative religious studies, physics, chemistry, engineering, pharmacy, psychology and dream interpretation, astronomy and astrology, to architecture and the history of science. Although Cardano himself categorically denied any deviation from the teachings of the Catholic Church, he was imprisoned by the Inquisition in 1570 without warning. After three months in prison, however, he was released on conditions. It was not until the 2000s that the Vatican archives were opened and some of the reasons for his arrest were learned. It was the accusation of heresy for his writing: De rerum varietate. The inquisitor who accused him of this has remained anonymous to this day. (That's how we know that.) His achievements are so extensive that we cannot list them here. From the mathematics that is in the drive shafts of today's cars (and which still bears his name as a cardan shaft), to great achievements in probability theory. In addition to many cynical, sometimes malicious anecdotes that his contemporaries and envious people tell about him, we found one particularly worth telling: he often improved his scarce financial resources through gambling in the casinos. And he was very successful, because he had developed systems for some incorrectly designed games of chance, the theory of which he had seen through. So he was not at all welcome in some metropolises of Italy, because the deeper meaning of state gambling was, then as now, not to make the population rich. He died in Rome in 1576. The room "Gerolamo Cardano", in which you are a guest, was almost a hundred years old at the time of his death.
