Wander around the interesting shops, or try a round at the local 18-hole golf course. The nearby Dunnottar Castle, sitting on the rugged coastline, is well worth a visit, and if you are here at New Year, you should not miss the Fireballs, a spectacular display where locals swing flaming spheres through the harbour to ward off evil spirits before throwing them in the sea. The cosmopolitan city of Aberdeen is a mere 15-minute drive, with a multitude of activities and attractions. Inland, visit the scenic Royal Deeside valley with picturesque towns and villages and the many castles including Balmoral. Further afield you’ll find ‘The Whisky Trail’ with centuries-old distilleries across the region or enjoy family days out with superb walks, cycle routes and clean sandy beaches.
