Description

Let your heart rejuvenate while listening to the creek and soaking in the beauty of the horse farm. This newly finished upstairs loft/cabin is part of an old historic barn built in the 1800s and used as one of the first Pony Express! Uniquely decorated with large windows and a great view of the pastures and distant mountains, your sanctuary is only 6 miles to Damascus, VA, 45 min. to Boone, NC, and 25 min. to Abingdon, VA. Enjoy the Cherokee National Forest trail leading to a double waterfall! The space UPDATE since Helene’s storm came thru our area, we have been busy trying to clean up but our road coming in GENTRY CREEK RD. has many pot holes still so go slow, especially if you are arriving after dark! All custom finish work from very old wood built into an Historic timber framed Barn the pony express used! Very Quiet, just the sound of the creek!! Nice picnic area by the creek, fire pit etc. Newly built and very comfortable, private, miles of trails right from our farm! Borders Cherokee National Forest. Please Note, this is a functioning 100 acre horse farm so there are 2 other families who live on the property. If you are looking for total seclusion, this may not be your spot. EARLY CHECK-IN: May be available at 1pm based on availability and approval for $30 May be available at 9am based on availability and approval for $50 Please message me the day prior for approval. LATE CHECK-OUT: May be available till 3pm based on availability and approval for $50 Please message me the day prior for approval. ***Note: Due to the seriousness of the Corona Virus we want our guests to know we sanitize THROUGHLY between guests. Many are requesting to bring their own king sheets, pillowcases, blankets and bath towels, which we recommend, but we do provide all these and they will be in the cubby by the bar stools. We also provide disposable paper products, paper towels, napkins, TP, coffee filters. Guest access Enjoy many lovely trails out by the horses, or follow Gentry Creek into the Cherokee National Forest, up to the Double Waterfall! Very Beautiful setting! THE OTHER CABINS ~ One is the 2 BR Cottage here on the farm. Listing # 11012191 The other is right down the road, 1 BR HISTORIC LOG CABIN on 7 fenced acres, totally private, pet friendly Listing #24961104 All about the same price. Inducted into the Rails to Trails Hall of Fame in 2015, the Virginia Creeper Trail is one of the country’s most famous biking trails. The Creeper stretches 34 miles from Whitetop Mountain down to Abingdon, VA, passing straight through downtown Damascus along the way. The portion of the trail going from Whitetop to Damascus is almost all downhill for 17 beautiful miles, making it the most popular bike route in the region. Several bike rental companies in town offer shuttle services from Damascus to Whitetop, so the trail is highly accessible; and there are plenty of opportunities to stop along the way, for food, scenery or historical information. For more info about the Creeper, check out the VA Creeper Trail website and the VA Creeper Trail Club website. Other things to note Helene’s flooding caused damage to the road coming in, GENTRY CREEK RD. So watch for potholes, especially after dark! 🐶unfortunately we are no longer able to allow pets. I have 2 other cabins where I do allow small dogs under 30lbs. If we Don't have the dates you need, we have 2 OTHER CABINS ~ One is the 2 BR Cottage here on the farm. Please do ALL YOUR WALKING in the direction towards the creek, rather than up the hill or into the barn or the actual horse pastures. We have pet pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and cows! If feeding drop food into pen. There is a trail along the creek which gives easy access to the horses if you’d like to feed carrots or apples. It is to the Right if facing the creek. There is also a trail to the left, behind the old barn that leads to a pond and water wheel. For longer walks or to GENTRY FALLS go left after crossing the bridge. It takes you into the National Forest. To the FALLS, Its best to drive the 2 miles to the trail head at the end of the dirt road and begin your hike from there. Then it’s another 2 mile hike from the trail head. You do cross the creek about 16 times!! Well worth it! If you want a short walk, take the dirt road into the NF and about half a mile you’ll see a turn out on the left. You can park in there and follow the path to the creek where there is a nice deep spot in the creek for cooling down on a hot summer day!! (If you want a short walk).
