We are located in the idyllic tropical rainforest of the South Pacific Coast where the lush green jungle meets the blue pacific ocean. A region in Costa Rica that is regarded as one of the most biologically diverse places in the world. Zancudo is a sleepy village off the beaten path, unimpacted by mass tourism and crowds – yet supplying creature comforts with sodas, grocery shops, bars, eateries and plenty of activities for the solo traveler and families alike. As you pull up and open the gate, walk 2 steps to the house and open the double doors to enter a big living room/ kitchen and dining area in front of the pool and ocean. The two en-suite bedrooms are located through the hallway. The house has a full wrap around porch, and laundry area. There are plenty of hammocks, lounges, and an outdoor dining room by the pool. The village offers ample wildlife viewing opportunities year round, a near empty beach with perfect swimming and otherworldly vibes, set against the lush jungle backdrop with gorgeous black volcanic sands. You can hear and see the macaws, and watch the parrots, kites, pelicans & hawks fly by. Surprise guests like sloths, hummingbirds, capuchins and iguanas will hopefully greet you in our garden. The ocean in front of the house is calm with a sandy bottom. It’s perfect for swimming and boogie boarding. We’ve renovated a 1970s traditional beach house, handcrafted by local builders using Costa Rican hardwood no longer available. As stewards of the home, we’ve left all the original details including the wood and modernized with AC, Smart TV with Netflix. Alexa with Spotify and Amazon Music, Satellite Wifi (high speed) and a desk in case you have to work from home. Some of the nearby activities my family and I love doing at the house: beach combing, offshore fishing, boogie boarding at sunset, fishing for Jacks off the beach, fishing off the river dock, walking the beach, kayaking the river, renting ATVs and exploring the town, surfing nearby, jumping in waterfall pools, boat trips to see dolphins and whales, getting a massage on the porch or beach, soccer in the garden, swimming all day in the beach and pool, going to Pavones for breakfast and to watch the surfers on the break, visiting Tiskita lodge waterfall, beach hopping in Punta Banco and watching the wild waves, swimming in the rock pools and finding creatures big and small in all the trees. We hope you’ll love this slice of paradise as much as we do. ******* Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Do we need a car? A: No, a car is optional. You can walk to and from bars, food & restaurants and the grocery store if needed. If you want to explore other villages, a car is recommended. Q: Which regional airport do I fly into? Sansa flies direct to GOLFITO. It is the closest and best option. (35 minutes by small boat or 45-55 minutes by car from the house. Q: How far are you from the public dock? A: We are a 2 minute walk from the village dock, where boat taxi's can transport you to/from Golfito, Puerto Jimenez and and other area. Q: Do we need a 4x4 car? A: No, if you decide to rent a car, you do not need a 4x4. The road is flat. Q: What are the directions by road? We are 35 mintues by boat taxi and 45-55 minutes by regular taxi or driving your own rental car. If you need a taxi please let us know. Q: Do you have a boat taxi recommendation? Yes - we have two captains we really like. Boats are both around 25-35 feet and can hold 6-8 people total. Q: Is the house easy to locate? A: Yes! Zancudo is a long, 7+ mile peninsula, with one single road. You can't miss the house as it's in the center of the village just past the school. Q: Is your property private and quiet? A: Yes! Once in Golfito, have boat taxi pick me up and bring me right across the street from the house (25 minutes), on the river side. Q: What tourist amenities are there in Zancudo? A: There are bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. There are plenty of activities like fishing, swimming, boogie boarding/surfing, horse back riding, visiting a turtle sanctuary nearby, river tours, snorkeling (better in dry season), whale watching, hiking tours to visit national parks, refuges and waterfalls. ** Guest Book is available digitally (URL) or physically (at the house). The book includes our favorite local spots & activities we love. gated/ private residential property with pool -opens to the Pacific Ocean beach. We have folks who can help in person should you need anything during your stay. We are located in the central part of the village, on the calm side of the beach. We have a few adult bikes for you to use. Renting a car is a good idea if you'd like to see more of Costa Rica and the nearby villages, beaches and parks. We are walking distance to a few low key places to eat & drink, and a grocery store/ general store. If you'd like to come by taxi, or boat taxi, it's possible to do that without having to rent a car. We have a few trusty taxi's out of Zancudo and Golfito we can recommend! The guest house next door is also available to rent via airbnb.
