Rowans Cottage - distinctive 1 bed restoration

Rowans Cottage is a one bed holiday let beautifully restored from a barn and tack room, tucked away behind the host's home in the rural farming village of Lockton. Located between Pickering and Whitby, within the North York Moors National Park and minutes from Dalby Forest, this is the perfect spot for guests to walk, cycle and explore a beautiful part of Yorkshire. With all the amenities of a modern home and some quirky historical features, it's a special place to stay. The space Rowans Cottage has a large open plan fully fitted kitchen, dining area and stone flagged living room with a stunning feature fire surround over a neat wood burning stove. Logs and kindling are available for guests. The living area is furnished with two comfortable armchairs and sofa with side tables, reading lamps and a thick wool rug for cosy nights around the fire. Tech includes a smart TV with terrestrial and satellite feeds, Netflix, a blu-ray DVD and CD player for your media, plus an Amazon Echo device. The board game cupboard includes some favourites plus a chess board and playing cards. A small selection of books plus local guides and a map are available. The generously sized table with bench and chairs in the dining area gives space to plan your days ahead. The bedroom has a large wardrobe with storage drawer and dressing table. Further storage for suitcases is available under the bed which can be configured as two singles or a zip-linked superking. Two Velux skylights offer night time star gazing from the comfort of your bed with remote control blackout blinds to ensure a lazy lie-in. The property is warmed throughout by underfloor heating (and radiators if required during the coldest time of year). Facilities are available for boot and bike cleaning, kit storage and drying outdoor clothing and equipment. There is table tennis, a badminton set, and quoits available to use. To minimise the carbon footprint of the cottage, power and heat is drawn from solar panels and a biomass heater where possible. It is a short stroll to the Coastliner bus stop at the end of the road and there is a Type 2 7kw Electric Vehicle charger available to use on site (we charge separately for this to cover the cost of electricity). All lighting is LED, appliances are modern high efficiency rated and the loft insulation is all British wool. Endeavouring to be eco-friendly, there are refillable dispensers for handwash and washing up liquid. Plastic free, bio-degradable dish washer and laundry tablets are provided. Guests are encouraged to re-cycle in the boxes provided. Guest access Ample car parking space is available immediately outside the cottage and in a garage across the stable yard. There is a large lawned garden area, bench seating and a sunny patio area with table and chairs available to guests. Other things to note Lockton is a great base for walking, cycling and exploring the North York Moors straight from the cottage. Easy access onto the main Pickering road for car or Coastliner bus travel to places further afield. Rowans Cottage is signed up to the North York Moors National Park initiatives for - Walking Friendly, Nature Friendly and Cycling Friendly - making it easy for you to plan and get the most from your stay in the area.
