Gray Rock Farm has been in the family since 1949, and is still home to small flocks of sheep and chickens. Located four miles from the center of Litchfield, the location is ideally suited for a peaceful respite in the country. With enough room inside and out, this is the perfect place to get your whole family together. There is a level 2 EV charger in the garage that can be accessed. The old part of the house was built around 1800 and retains the central fireplace, chestnut beams and floors, and original architectural details. In keeping with traditional design, we have upgraded the house to incorporate the Big House, Little House, Back House, Barn concept, typical of older New England farms. The four-season sunroom connecting the old to the new has become the focal point of the house. By joining the kitchen table and the sunroom table, the space can accommodate a sit-down dinner for 14 in one room. While there is no TV for general viewing in the main house, we do have a 32" HDTV for video games. Bring your own console. The spacious back yard is perfect for outdoor games or just relaxing under the massive nut trees. There is an old outdoor fireplace that can be used for roasting marshmallows or hot dogs. If you are into hiking, there is a great hiking trail just down the dirt road on land trust property. You can do a one, two, or three mile hike and never have to get in your car. We live two houses down the road, and can generally be at the house on a moment's notice. There are sheep and chickens and gardens on the property that need care on a daily basis, so your host will be there to tend to the animals and the gardens. Phoebe has a glass workshop in the garage, but guests can be assured of privacy in the house. Located four miles east of the center of Litchfield, the property is adjacent to a large land trust parcel with beautiful trails for hiking, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. Topsmead State Forest is a five minute drive away, and offers spectacular grounds for bird watching and hiking. White Memorial Conservation Center is a six mile drive away and offers many miles of trails for hiking, biking, and access to the Bantam River for canoeing and kayaking, or you can just take a nice walk down the closed road to the gurgling brook and enjoy the cool water. We do have quiet neighbors with young children. Guests can have fresh eggs daily if so desired - just ask!
