Description
This tropical hideaway, designed by acclaimed architect John Hix, is a tranquil oasis perched atop a breezy hill with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean to the south. The loft features a private terrace, open-air shower, well-equipped kitchen, high thread count sheets, oversized plush towels, strong WiFi, and a uniquely beautiful shared pool. Despite the privacy of the property, Vieques' best beaches, restaurants, and trail heads are minutes away. The space The Architecture The concrete loft design is inspired by Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetics, cultivating the beauty found in imperfection and impermanence, simplicity and intimacy, natural objects and the forces of nature. The loft is open to nature with spectacular views in every direction. The Amenities The kitchen is well equipped with a sink, toaster oven, gas stove, mini fridge, coffee maker, and fresh-ground local coffee. The bathroom has an oversized concrete sink, plenty of shelving, towels and sundries, and an outdoor shower with a view of the Caribbean. We also supply you with everything you need for Vieques' award-winning beaches: towels, chairs and a cooler. Nature and Wildlife The property is fully immersed in nature. It is full of fruit trees, tropical plants, flowering cacti and a Ceiba tree. You are likely to see horses and goats during the day, hear the coqui frogs at night, and rise with the roosters in the morning. Because the loft is open to the natural environment, light sleepers may want to bring ear plugs and the bug-sensitive are welcome to use the complimentary insect net canopy. Shared Pool Enjoy views of the Atlantic and Caribbean while swimming in the stunning architectural pool. Guests are welcome to access this shared pool through the main house from 8:30am to 4:30pm. We will try to be flexible to accommodate special requests outside of this window. Weather Average temperatures in Vieques range from the low 70s to mid 80s. This makes the island the perfect tropical getaway. The property is perched atop a hill, providing beautiful island breezes. The loft is designed without air conditioning to take advantage of the trade winds and we recommend keeping the picture-frame windows open to take full advantage of the natural ventilation. Guest access You will need a car or golf cart to access the property and take full advantage of what the island offers. Our property, Casa de los Vientos, is accessible via a dirt road. There is parking on premises.
