Linden Lea 3 bedroom family cottage in Mousehole
Description
You are close to everything when you stay at this beautiful double fronted cottage with outside space in a prime location in Mousehole. Close to some of Cornwall's iconic beaches, Linden Lea was completely renovated in 2020 and has space, character and that all important outside shower for when you get back from the beach. With 3 bedrooms and ample space, families will be perfectly placed for enjoying sea, sand and surf before dinner at one of Mousehole's many excellent restaurants. The space This double fronted fisherman's cottage was lovingly renovated in 2020, after being empty for 2 years. We began our journey with Air B and B from Autumn 2021. The house has been stripped back and opened up to create more space and let more light into this 18th Century granite built property. A double aspect bathroom has been hand built alongside an outdoor hot and cold shower and a bespoke kitchen. Lounge area This room boasts a large original granite fire place which was discovered underneath old wallpaper when we began the renovation. Having revealed and cleaned the exterior, we installed a log burning stove and a Welsh slate hearth. There are two comfy sofas, cushions and extra wool blankets, shuttered windows, a large TV and DVD player as well as a selection of books on the two recessed bookshelves. The wooden flooring in the lounge and dining area were reclaimed from a Victorian hospital in Manchester. There is more of this beautiful reclaimed Victorian timber in the courtyard and the bathroom. We particularly enjoy the large screen TV on cold nights as well as the cozy feel of this room which is on the other side of the building to the kitchen and dining room. Kitchen and Dining room The kitchen and dining room were originally two small rooms divided by a small doorway and constricted by cheaply built dividing spaces. Both rooms have now been opened up to create a large, open and more practical and family friendly kitchen diner space. The kitchen itself looks out onto a rear courtyard that was revealed once the outbuilding was taken down. The kitchen has bespoke patio sliding doors designed to create light and provide a view of the outside. There is a slate floor, a full size electric range cooker as well as a selection of hand built wooden cupboards, washing machine, bright red freestanding fridge/freezer, full size dishwasher and a Belfast sink. The dining room has a large pine table that seats up to 8 people alongside an under stairs shoe cupboard, shuttered windows, built in seating and storage. Courtyard Space Outside the kitchen door is a very sheltered and private courtyard with a copper industrial look shower with hot and cold water that will remove all the sand from between your toes when you return from the beach! There is also space for hanging your wetsuits as well as a Wellington Boot rack. There is a bistro coffee table and two chairs in the courtyard as well as a built in bench and there are two deckchairs for guests use in the kitchen cupboard. Also in the courtyard are plants typically seen in Cornwall due to the warmer winter climate. Bathroom The bathroom was created out of an empty space that originally only housed a toilet. We opened up the ceiling and built a double aspect room with bath and bespoke self contained shower. This lovely room now has plenty of light and air from it's two windows. You can also see the old Mousehole Chapel from the rear window. We have built shelving from reclaimed timber (also used for the bath and shower construction) and the ships lights add a nautical feel. We will supply towels and bathmat for guests use. Bedroom One The master bedroom is at the front of the house and contains a king sized brass bed with a king size topper, 4 pillows and memory foam mattress. We like our comfort! There are two bedside tables and two BTC bedside lights as well as a wardrobe and a pine chest of drawers. This bedroom (alongside all of the front of the house) has a new sash window. There is a sea grass carpet in this room and throughout the upstairs of the house. There are USB ports for phone chargers on either side of the bed. Bedroom Two The second bedroom is also at the front of the house and has two twin hospital style beds. This room also has a chest of drawers and sea grass carpet as well as USB ports for phone chargers at the side of both beds. If you are bringing children with you, this room is designed to ensure their safety. We have created a stable door (lockable from the outside) which will enable you to put little ones to bed without fearing that they may wander around the house. There is also a unique staircase light at the top of the stairs should you wish to use it. Bedroom Three Our 'cabin bedroom' has a vaulted ceiling with a skylight velux window. This room is special as you can lie in bed and look at the sky, with the air on your face. It contains a small double bed with a single duvet and teenagers will fight to get this room! There are 4 drawers in the cabin bed itself as well as a small bedside table and bespoke shelving. Stairs The house has 9 stairs, with a rope banister and sea grass carpeting. The house has electric central heating and a log burning stove in the lounge. Although the house is easily heated and maintains warmth, a log burning stove can add a cozy feel in the winter months. Please note that logs can be purchased within the village - more details in our house folder. Guest access The cottage sits in a prime location in the oldest and most historic part of this stunning harbour village. There are two harbour car parks that charge reasonable rates and there is some free parking on nearby streets. Mousehole sits next to Newlyn fishing village and there are regular buses to Penzance as well as a good taxi service. Other things to note There are several excellent restaurants in the village itself as well as a hotel with a stunning garden that has breathtaking views of the ocean. Also in the village is the historic and traditional Ship Inn Public House as well as a basic local shop with essentials, a reputable deli and gift shops. Mousehole is on the route of the South West coastal path and there are many excellent walks, including a walk to the historic Lamorna Cove, which takes in stunning views of the sea. Dolphins are regularly spotted within the area, as well as seals, an array of coastal birds and sometimes even Pilot whales! At Christmas and New Year, guests can enjoy the world famous Mousehole Harbour Lights when the whole village and harbour becomes festooned with colourful lights and each day hosts a 'count down' to the lights being switched on and the harbour becoming bathed in multiple colour and nautical lighting designs.
