Riverside artist's sanctuary, Melbourne

This is truly a Melbourne inner suburban oasis! Only 3 km from the CBD and 4 minutes walk to the 12 and 109 Tram lines, this riverside sanctuary overlooks the Yarra River over which the sun rises. The treetops of the natural bushland that the apartment sits amidst - almost in a treehouse manner - are teeming with native wildlife including possums and rainbow lorikeets and flying foxes. Kookaburras are frequent visitors as are currawongs, whose hypnotising song is unforgettable. The space Whatever the weather, the delight of the natural outlook onto the river and bushland is what makes this apartment a nourishing sanctuary in which to reside. An 8 metre balcony and a full wall of windows in the living and dining area ensures that you have every opportunity to watch the changing light of the day. This is a modern apartment full of unique touches, including a number of Japanese antique and vintage curiosities and modern designer classic pieces, such as Phillip Stark Ghost Louis chairs on the balcony. With a dining table for 4, and a 3 seater sofa. At the end of the hallway, you need only take the stairs down one flight to reach the communal gym and indoor swimming pool which is open 6am-8.30pm. Head down another floor and you reach a private doorway with direct access to the river-side walking paths. The apartment is double glazed and has light-blocking blinds and stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter, though reverse cycle air conditioning is available if needed. Guest access Your bedroom has a comfortable king single which is on the floor of a private bedroom, with large windows looking out onto the river, and a built-in shelf unit and cupboard. The open plan living, dining, kitchen and bathroom are all shared with me and my partner. We are both artists and are based between our studio just outside of Melbourne and the flat by the river, so some days and nights you're likely to be on your own in the flat, but we're on call and available to answer questions and help you enjoy your stay. We will need to co-ordinate your arrival and departure so that the key exchange can take place in person.
