The Farmhouse at Norskedalen's Thrunegaarden
The Farmhouse at Thrunegaarden is an idyllic setting on 40 acres of Wisconsin Farmland. Sit in the living room watching deer munch on the grass in front of the window. Enjoy the historic buildings gracing the property, telling the story of the Norwegian immigrants. Learn the history of the area as you walk the path from building to building, wandering between century old pine trees. Most of all, escape from the hectic pace of daily life while visiting The Farmhouse at Thrunegaarden! The Farmhouse at Norskedalen's Thrunegaarden is part of Norskedalen Nature & Heritage Center. Norskedalen is Norwegian for Norwegian Valley; Thrunegaarden is Norwegian for Thrune Farm. Thrunegaarden is the home of the Niels Skumsrud Cabin, the oldest cabin in Vernon County, Wisconsin. Signage on the property depicts the friendly relationship between the Native Americans present in this area and the Skumsrud Family. You'll also learn of Skumsrud descendants Lloyd and Agnes Thrune, and Ruth Thrune and their gift to Norskedalen. You will enjoy having the entire home to yourself for your visit!
