Looking for a unique experience? Welcome to my home in the forest. Enjoy the peace and quiet, hot tub under the stars, play the piano and walk the labyrinth in the meadow. You won't find another place quite like this. Great hiking in the State Parks nearby. Wildlife sightings are possible, yet you are just minutes from town. The space As you wind your way down my private road, off the beaten path, you will find my three story country house tucked in the forest with trees all around. My seven acre property affords complete privacy from the outer world but the town of Mendocino is just minutes away. In the Forest Room you will feel like you are staying in the treetops. This is a private retreat. You will be the only guests here. I do have family visiting (not often) but they do not stay in your space. UNIQUE DESIGN ELEMENTS The house is unique, designed and built in 1979. Your Redwood Forest Suite is on the second floor of the house and has high ceilings and lots of light. There is a queen size bed, a desk, a comfortable recliner and a bookshelf with a good variety of books. My photos do not do justice to this room as it is impossible to capture the feeling of the vertical space that is part of the rooms design. SUITE OF ROOMS FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT You will have a suite of rooms, your bedroom, a room across the hall with hardwood floors, table and chairs, hand crafted by my great grandfather and a food prep area off to the side, with microwave, toaster, coffee maker, teapot and very small refrigerator. Just down the hall, you will have a PRIVATE BATHROOM with mexican paver tile floors, a big tiled walk in shower with bench and a six foot long claw foot bathtub. The solar collecting greenhouse for this solar home is adjacent to the bathroom through antique oak french doors. From the chair on the balcony of the greenhouse you can look out over the forest and meadow below. Deer wander by regularly and you might catch a glimpse of Mr. Fox and more! SEPARATE ENTRANCE There is a separate upstairs guest entrance. HOT TUB IS ALWAYS ON The hot tub is always up and running. Soak under a giant redwood tree while you wake up enjoying the sounds of the forest around you. Also nice during the full moon and on starry nights. The hot tub is extremely private, placed so that it is not visible from the house, no neighbors, just forest all around. YURT/ART STUDIO On my property you will also find a 27 foot yurt, surrounded by a ring of redwood trees. The yurt functions as my art studio and is the home of FOR THE JOY OF IT!, my expressive arts therapy practice. You can use the yurt during your time here when I am not using it for my work. It is a great place to relax, read, write, play the piano, or just enjoy the forest. It guarantees a fun evening after a day out exploring and is a great place to spend time on a rainy day. The art supplies are off limits unless you make a special arrangements with me for an extra fee. I work as an expressive arts therapist. I have written a book called Finding the Wild Inside: Exploring Our Inner Landscape Through the Arts, Dreams and Intuition. You can schedule a time with me in the yurt to explore your relationship with your artist within. I've dedicated my life to the belief thatwe are all artists. It comes with being human. Each retreat is uniquely designed on a focus of your choosing. Contact me for price and info. Guest access There is lots of quiet and privacy at my seven acre forest retreat. Basically the second floor of the house is yours to enjoy. You will have your own separate entrance. Guests have access to the Redwood Forest Room, a private bathroom, a seating area in in the solar collecting green house loft which looks out over the meadow. There is an additional room that serves as a semi-kitchen/dining room with small refrig, microwave, toaster and coffee and tea making supplies. So cooking possibilities are limited and the kitchen downstairs is off limits. There are many books and art supplies here as well. If you play the piano, arrangements can be made to play the grand piano in my living room. There is a piano in the yurt as well. Other things to note INTERNET, CELL PHONES, HOUSE PHONE There is wireless internet access on the property but it is probably slower than what you are used to. It works well for internet and emails but does not do well with streaming. There is an old fashioned video store in town. Cell phone coverage is spotty at my house and the area as well. Verizon and smaller carriers work in some places on the property. ATT only works in town. The house phone is available for your use. A stair lifts are available for those who would have difficulty with stairs. When you book with airbnb, the 11% county bed tax is already included in your room rate. I'm sorry that I can't accommodate one night stays as I just can't keep up that pace.
