Red Bird Log Cabin

Located in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Menifee County (Frenchburg) between Red River Gorge (20 miles) and Cave Run Lake (14 miles), our cabin is in beautiful Kentucky woods. We have three queen beds, living area, and kitchen. The bathroom with shower is in the basement, with two sinks and laundry. The space Red Bird Rentals is a family-owned and operated business. The properties came to us from my parents. My father was known as Red Bird on the CB radio he enjoyed using (my mother's handle was Raw Hide, from an old TV western). They were born and raised in Menifee County, and moved to Ohio to work at Frigidaire after my father got home from World War II. When they retired, they came home and built a house on Myers Fork. They also owned the log cabin on Barker Ridge, and raised gardens (corn, tomatoes, pumpkins, gourds, and strawberries) in what is now its yard. The original cabin, built by Lon and Lula Barker, consisted of one large room and is over a hundred years old with logs from the 1880s and 1890s. My parents had it moved a short distance from its original location to the current one. The added part of the cabin (now the kitchen and upstairs bedroom) is also quite old, and was brought from Pomeroyton, Kentucky. It was joined to the large room in the 1970s. The barn on the property, where we host weddings, was built in 1984. Guest access The entire cabin (ground floor, upstairs, basement), the front and back porches, a picnic table, a glide seat, an old-fashioned brick fireplace for roasting marshmallows, and a pond if you'd like to fish.
