Description

Discounts off-season or monthly. Cottage on a quiet offshore island with a working fishing village, close to beaches and spectacular views of Acadia. Walk to community amenities: Neighborhood House, Library, restaurant and shops. The island can be reached only by ferry or water taxi from Northeast Harbor or Southwest Harbor (passengers only, no cars). It's a place where a family can be a family again and engage with island neighbors. Wi-fi available at nearby Neighborhood House. The space It's a small cottage with many recent upgrades. The whole place will be yours. Hosts tend a vegetable garden near the house, which guests may access. -- One bathroom, upstairs. -- Private master bedroom with queen-sized bed. -- The "middle" bedroom, with full-sized bed, is less private. At the top of the stairs and on the way to the bathroom. Fine for the kids or for friendly guests. -- We can add a single mattress upon request. -- Fold-out couch in living room downstairs. -- Back deck. -- Large gas grill. -- Will consider a pet; please ask. -- No smoking. Guest access Please understand that we're on a real island, with no bridge. You'll get here on a passenger ferry (that's NO cars aboard---people, luggage, groceries, pets and bikes only) and we'll coach you through the mainland parking and ferry schedule, by phone or email. Ferries in summertime are six trips per day for each of two ferry services: Beal and Bunker from Northeast Harbor; or Cranberry Cove Ferry from Southwest Harbor. Four trips per day off-season. Water taxis can make getting here easier: Captain John Dwelley on the "Delight," or Captain Blair Colby on the Cadillac Water Taxi. Please search for web addresses and phone numbers---Airbnb blocks them until there's a booking. We'll pick you up at the dock and take you and your belongings to the house. It's not far. Then put your feet up and relax. Other things to note The Town Office of Cranberry Isles can also give info on parking on Mount Desert Island (what we call the mainland). Bring your groceries, as the island only has a small store (Little Cranberry Lobster) at the Cranberry Isles Fishermen's Co-Op. Their grocery line has expanded greatly in the past few years, so you won't go hungry--but it can be pricey and a bit limited. The best lobsters in Maine can be purchased there too. Staples, such as sugar, oil, salt & pepper, dish soap, come with the house. If you like, bring bicycles. The hosts can pick you and all luggage and parcels up at the town dock where the ferry lands.
