Description

Thunder Ridge at the Forest Retreat is an adults-only pet-friendly getaway. Children may come only during specific holidays. Your house will be unlocked. Check-in is a 3 p.m. Here you are surrounded by the Homochitto National Forest. Take a picnic to the sand-bars along the pristine spring-fed creek. Hike or mountain bike on the remote forest roads. Sports cars do not fare well here. Please note that the address listed on Airbnb is not our location. I will email you directions. The space Experience starry nights listening to the owls hooting far off in the woods, and peaceful days with no phone, no Wifi, and no interruptions. What you'll hear are only the sounds of nature and what you'll see is the movement of light as the day passes into night. When it rains it is lovely to hear the raindrops on the tin roof. When it's cold it's time to build a fire in the wood-burning stove. For the warmer seasons, we have super cold AC. It's important to bring all your food and provisions and to note that Gloster does have a tiny grocery store. I'm not sure if they sell beer on Sundays, and they definitely do not have wine. Gloster is 25 minutes from the Forest Retreat. We clean the cabins as soon as guests leave, and then check them the morning before anyone arrives. That said, if a beetle walks through an unseen crack and is there when you arrive please remember you are coming to a natural place surrounded by a national forest. Guest access We have a clear spring-fed creek with fossils and petrified wood. To find the path to the creek, walk west from the parking area. You'll see a trail that leads to the pond and over the dam. In the bottomland, the trail bends right, and this short turn takes you to the sandbars and creek. Please don't drop cigarette butts on the land. The animals and I thank you. Other things to note I recommend that you bring shoes to walk in the gravel-bottomed creek or knee-high boots. Tennis shoes are a tremendous bother. I recommend bringing folding chairs, beach towels and a small cooler. This gear is recommended for a day on the sand-bars at the creek. During the summertime, when hiking or biking off the obvious trails spray, yourself with Deep Woods OFF.
