A detached Georgian house close to the centre of a unique Dorset Georgian market town . Perfect for exploring the Dorset countryside and beaches. It has a beautiful walled garden. It has been furnished and equipped to a high standard retaining many of the original period features ensuring a very comfortable home from home. The House was originally part of the Portman Estate and Bryanston School can be viewed from upstairs. It retains many of the original features such as maids bells and a flag stone floor in the kitchen. It was renovated to maintain many Georgian features but also to be a comfortable family home. There are 2 reception rooms. The large sitting room has a tv for guests to access their own streaming accounts, The large family room has a large tv with Sky tv and there is a games cupboard. The kitchen has a gas Aga which is the main source for cooking and is the heart of the house so is perfect for all meals and cosy kitchen suppers. Tea, coffee and milk will be provided on arrival. There is also a formal dining room and both are perfect for entertaining. Everything is provided to enable guests to feel they are home from home! The beautiful walled garden is perfect for relaxing and also having BBQs in the summer. There is a downstairs shower room and a large bathroom upstairs with a roll top bath. There is a study with a piano and and a well equipped utility room. There are 4 bedrooms 3 large and a smaller room. Dogs are allowed in the property but there are restrictions on where they are allowed and an additional fee. Please see house rules. Self access with key safe but co host will meet and greet if possible The house co host is available to be contacted during your stay. Methuen is located within easy walking distance of the Georgian town Blandford Forum so guests can walk to shops, pubs and restaurants. There are also some excellent walks nearby on Hod and Hambledon Hill. The property is also close to the Jubilee Trailway which is part of the North Dorset trailway which is good for cycling and walking. It is a short drive to some beautiful Dorset villages and country pubs . The Crown Hotel in town is a good location for meals and drinks . One of our favourite Pubs is The White Horse Inn, Stourpaine. It is friendly and serves great beer , perfect after a long walk up Hod Hill. It is only approx 35-40 minutes to get to some beautiful Dorset beaches as well as Poole Harbour. It is very close to Bryanston School as well as Clayesmore and Milton Abbey Schools. It is on the bus route to Poole and Salisbury. There are 4 supermarkets in Blandford Forum , their locations can be accessed on google. Morrisons is @ 10 minutes walking distance form the house. Tesco can be accessed by car M&S Food Hall @ 15 minutes walking distance form the house Lidl can be accessed by car There are also convenience stores and Spar is in the market place There is a market on Thursdays and Saturdays in the market place. Reeve the Bakers is in the market place and has an excellent range of breads and cakes. There are 2 really good butchers - J Mato and Son 7 West Street and Stuart Pearce Family Butchers Recommended Pubs/ Restaurants in Blandford Forum, All within easy walking distance Nelsons Cheese and Ale House , 77 Salisbury Street . You can walk there through the surgery car park , opposite the house. Nice pub for a drink and basic pub food. The Dolphin , 42 East Street. Nice pub for a drink and basic pub food. The Crown Hotel, West Street . Great place for drinks and good food. Brewery Tap Bar and Restaurant , Hall and Wodehouse Brewery. Day time opening. Ginger Viking. Great for cocktails, craft beer and wine. SimlaTandoori. 12 West Street. Excellent Indian Restaurant . China China Chinese restaurant lacks atmosphere but is good for a takeaway. Nemaste Gurkha, 11 East Street. Nepalese Restaurant Veccchia Roma, 8, Georgian Passage. Nice little Italian restauarant, very reasonable. Recommended pubs in villages close to Blandford The White Horse Inn, Stourpaine. Great pub for drink and nice pub food after a walk up Hod Hill and is our favourite local pub. The owner and staff are really friendly. Good beer ! Our favourite pub! Dogs welcome. Booking recommended for food. The Museum Inn, Farnham The King John , Tollard Royal Saxon Inn, Child Okeford Cricketers , Shroton. At the bottom of Hambledon Hill so a good place for a drink after a walk. The Langton Arms, Tarrant Monkton There are many good cafes in Blandford all within walking distance: The Yellow Bicycle Cafe Forum Cafe Rebekah’s Kitchen The Georgian Tea rooms Costa Coffee Something Different ..... The Scented Botanist , Keyneston Mill, Home of Parterre Fragrances. Tarrant Keyneston. Nice cafe for breakfast and lunch . Gardens are worth going around in spring/summer. Langham Wine Estate and Vineyard Cafe, Crawthorne Farm , Crawthorne , Dorchester. Nice cafe for breakfast and lunch. Stock up on their delicious English sparkling wine. Opening times should be check on websites. Places to visit near Blandford Forum. Kingston Lacy House, Wimborne Salisbury Cathedral Stourhead Dorchester Thomas Hardy’s Birth place , Dorchester Sculpture by the Lakes, near Dorchester T.E Lawrence’s house , Clouds Hill . Buried in St Nicholas Church , Moreton Wimborne Minster Beaches within easy driving distance of Blandford Sandbanks, Poole Lulworth Cove Studland Beach and Nature Reserve Durdle Door Chesil Beach Ringstead bay Methuen is within easy walking distance of the town centre of Blandford Forum. There is a parking space on the drive and parking on the road. The road is a one way street. So make sure you indicate left to turn into the drive opposite Whitecliff Mill Surgery otherwise you will have to go around the one way system. At the weekend and on bank holidays it is possible to park in the surgery car park opposite. There are bus services to Poole, Dorchester and also Salisbury. Parking space off road on driveway
