Laurel Cottage on Uncus Lake - Date of Stay Aug 18, 2017 Just last week we finished a three week stay in this home on Uncas Lake. We could not have been more pleased, in any way, with our stay. Once you have arrived here you will be surprised to realize you are still in Connecticut. The rugged landscape on the drive in puts you in any part of Maine, Vermont or New Hampshire you want to be in. It is absolutely beautiful. Upon our arrival we found the house to be extremely clean and ready for guests. The large screened in porch is where you will find yourself most of the day if you are not out canoeing, kayaking or sailing on the lake. It offers great views of the lake in an outdoor setting insect free. We found ourselves taking most of our meals on this great porch. This location is unique due to the fact that most of the land surrounding the lake is part of the Nehantic State Forest. Due to this fact the lake is quite sparsely populated and because there are no motors of any kind allowed on the lake it is very very quiet and relaxing. Our hosts, Carol and Steve could not possibly be any more welcoming and gracious. They were extremely quick to respond to any questions we had or any need that arose. You would be hard pressed to find better hosts. You could not possibly be disappointed with a vacation here. And lest I forget, if you like to fish you will be very happy to find yourself on one of the best fishing lakes in the state. Guest access Access to the grounds, the lake, the state forest, the entire house are all unrestricted. Other things to note Fishing, boating (we provide a canoe, kayak, and paddle boat), swimming, and hiking are all accessible directly from the house.
