The owners have decorated the lodge with many artefacts from their time living in Africa and they have created a warm and welcoming environment. Ideal for couples or families, there is a large open plan living and dining area flooded with light from the many windows. There are three bedrooms, a shower room and a galley kitchen. Outside there is an enclosed covered verandah looking out on to the peaceful, wooded parkland setting of Penlan Holiday Park. The park is surrounded by oak and beech trees and is a haven for wildlife as well as offering a range of facilities. There is shared use of the children’s playground, large playing field and picnic area, fun for all the family. Wi-Fi can be accessed on the site. A small shop (limited opening hours) supplies the basics but as you are only a mile from the charming village of Cenarth, you will find pubs, café and a shop there too. Just a few minutes drive further on will bring you to the market town of Newcastle Emlyn which has an array of independent shops, pubs, coffee shops and a supermarket. The village of Cenarth itself is famous for its falls, where the River Teifi tumbles dramatically over the rocks. You may catch the amazing sight of the salmon leaping up the falls if you are here in the autumn! The riverside walks are lovely and whilst here you must visit the museum in the 17th century flour mill, dedicated to the history of coracle making – the ancient fishing boats made from a basket frame and covered in a tar coated canvas. Try some Caws Cenarth organic cheese; you can watch it being made on the farm on the outskirts of the village. If you enjoy walking and being in the great outdoors, there are 325 acres of fantastic woodlands nearby at Ffynone and Cilgwyn. Lourie Lodge is well placed to access Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. Less than 10 miles away you’ll be able to discover the West Wales coastline and scenic Cardigan Bay. There are many beaches and lots of them accept dogs all year round if you are bringing your family dog with you. Pods of bottlenose dolphins are frequent visitors in the bay and you can take a boat trip to see them up close. The thriving market town of Cardigan is 10 minutes away, on the banks of the estuary. The ancient castle and exhibitions are worth a visit and there are plenty of good eateries including a restaurant on a boat and a tipi serving wood fired pizzas and live music in the season. The family attractions of Pembrokeshire including Oakwood Theme Park, Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo are easily accessible for a day out, as is St David’s, the smallest city in Britain. Have a relaxing time staying at Lourie Lodge and take time to discover this wonderful and diverse area of West Wales. Beach 9 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
