The porch dining area has an extendable table that seats a large group, and the round dining table inside seats 6. Use the 7 seater kitchen pine bar as additional table seating or as a spacious buffet bar. The kitchen is well equipped with many amenities listed elsewhere. As coffee lovers, we have a coffee grinder, drip coffee machine, Nespresso machine and coffee press. Caribou Run disperses groups very well, providing numerous spaces for eating, playing games, visiting, relaxing with a book or catching a quick nap. None of the bedrooms share a wall, optimal for privacy and the quick settling of children at bedtime. Adults can relax with a group game on the porch, a movie or playing X-Box games without disturbing sleeping children who are tired after a day filled with swimming and games. Our pine-lined electric sauna provides a wonderful place to relax followed by a refreshing jump in the lake. A large dock provides plenty of room for swimming, boating and water sports. Two kayaks and a canoe are provided as well as an aluminum boat with an electric trolling motor. There are life jackets on hooks outside the cabin (please make sure they don’t travel home with you by mistake). *PLEASE NOTE: A Pleasure Craft licence is required to operate the boat & motor.* If you are not bringing your own watercraft, you will need to arrange a water taxi with marina staff in advance (cost not included in rental). Additional watercraft (pontoon boats, canoes, kayaks) are available for rent at the marina (prearrange to ensure availability). Harris Lake is a beautiful mid-size lake that connects with the Magnetawan River through navigable waterways, a 10 minute boat ride from the cabin. The lake provides excellent swimming, boating and fishing (bass, pickerel, pike) and is an ideal place for canoeing. The Magnetawan River is a favourite place to challenge yourself at the 'jumping rock', or to swim in the rapids at the waterfall. THE STORY OF CARIBOU RUN Caribou Run is built on a unique geothermic concept constructed primarily of natural log, wood and rock materials founded on pre-Cambrian cap rock. The living room and the kitchen feature natural rock protrusions. Legend has it that the large caribou on the kitchen wall raced down from the north so fast that he came right through the east wall of our log cabin. There he remains to this day. Once you’ve experienced Caribou Run, we think you’ll want to stay a while too. Other things to note This is a water access cottage. We are directly across from the marina, but our cabin is private due to natural foliage. Free parking is provided at the marina for one vehicle. The marina charges additional guest vehicles $12/day, or there is free parking at the Government dock (right turn part way down Harris Lake Rd.). Upon booking, you will have access to the Pre-booking; Post-booking and Arrival sections for additional information including driving directions, parking tag pickup and cabin entry code.
