This cozy sun-drenched studio has a huge bed (Cal king), a beautiful new kitchen, and an extra-deep soaking tub. It's in the very heart of Downtown Troy. Super close to RPI, EMPAC, The Troy Music Hall, The Farmers Market, and the Takk House. Whether you need a cozy romantic getaway or simply a clean, fresh, place to lay your head, the "Bird in Hand" could be for you. The Bird in Hand studio is on the second floor of an 1870's building. The apartment overlooks a church yard, so you have a view of snow in winter and a garden with trees in the other seasons. Note this is a second floor walk up above an artists co-op: the neighborhood and our block are still rough around the edges just the way we like it - but if you are spooked by panhandlers and people who ride busses this is not for you. This studio apartment is on the second floor, so there is a flight of stairs to climb. It is above a storefront art space that has hosted many cool events over the years, but also has wear and tear. If you need your entrance area to be pristine this is not the right place for you. Once you are in it is clean and new and you have the whole studio to yourself. Guests can call or text. Hosts and co-hosts live in the building so we can sometimes help you out in person and we always try to respond quickly via text. This apartment is right in the middle of Downtown Troy. Most of the restaurants, bars, and coffee shops are in easy walking distance. I work at RPI and walk there in 10 minutes. it’s a great location. But be forewarned: some past guests have expect Troy to be a quaint little town and they're shocked to meet panhandlers and see boarded up store fronts. If you have an aversion to those things then maybe a town like Saratoga is a better choice for you! PARKING: The only available parking for this place is on the street. It is alternate side parking on weeknights. Be sure to be on the correct side of the road overnight! If you don't want to worry about parking tickets, I suggest that you drop your things off and park in the residential area of town, which begins just 3 blocks south from our address on 3rd street and Ferry. City garages are also free overnights and weekends. BUSSES: There are public bus stops two blocks in either direction, the bus routes pass by the front of the building. BIKE SHARE: There is a bike share program with bike docks a half block away at Third and Broadway. Quirky things you should know: PARKING: There is only street parking available which is metered at $1/hour weekdays 8-5 and free all other times. There is more free parking on the street all hours a few blocks away. BED: The Bed is built on a platform at about four feet high, and the platform is accessible via stairs that are each almost a foot high. If your mobility is compromised i do not recommend it. BATH: The soaking tub has hand-held shower head. There is no standing shower. It is compulsory luxury and relaxation at the Bird in Hand. COMPUTER: There is an IMAC that you can use - it has a DVD slot as well. TV: There is a video projector with a Chromecast dongle so that you can watch while you lounge in the cal king sized bed. You can link to the Chromecast from your own device. Its easy to do, instructions in the room for downloading any apps you might need to access. HEAT: Heat is delivered by two cast iron radiators, you can turn them on and off with the valves at the floor. If its not very cold you may find that you have to turn them completely off -- and they do take some time to respond since they hold heat well. KITCHEN SINK HOT WATER: The Kitchen sink hot water takes a full minute or so to arrive at the faucet... it is just a long line that needs to purge. I'm going to increase the volume of that line and fix that problem, but until then... sorry for the delay.
