Century Cottage on a Working Farm
Situated on 165 acres, this century-old cottage is part of a working family farm complex that includes three historic homes, outbuildings, and local landmark 'big red barn.' The cottage is freestanding in a landscaped yard abutting fields growing alfalfa, wheat, and potatoes. A humble home with all of the basic comforts, it is a clean, light and bright respite in the countryside. The space Guests can walk right out the cottage door to the dirt and gravel roads that border the irrigation flume and canal - which make great walking paths. Though a fairly busy rural highway fronts the farm, walking these roads (only accessed by farmers and the ditch-rider) surrounded by fields, is a peaceful way to enjoy the farmland. This is a working farm, so depending on the season, you may see planting, irrigation, or harvesting operations. Being on the Pacific Flyway, the Klamath Basin is a birder's paradise. You may see a bald eagle, barn owl, pelican, Canada goose, cormorant, pheasant, sandhill crane, red-tailed hawk, egret, dove, quail, turkey vulture, red-winged blackbird, robin, mallard duck, sparrow, or a magpie - to name a few. Deer also call this farm home and often wander through the farmyard. You may also see and hear an F-15, as the Basin is home to the 173rd Fighter Wing of the Oregon National Guard. Nearby Kingsley Field trains pilots and supports combat operations. We often feel we get to experience admission-free airshows. Guest access Entire cottage, private yard, and farmyard walking areas.
