Description
For a relaxing, unplugged getaway this could be it. Hike, paddle, swim and explore Algonquin Park and come back to sleep in comfort inside the POD. Experience cooking and eating outdoors just like camping. Best of both worlds! Shower outdoors with an on demand hot water heater. At night sit by the camp fire and enjoy the sounds of nature, dark skies and brilliant stars. Embrace the solitude. Life is good! The space You stay in a natural surrounding with access to Algonquin Park less than 15 minutes away. I provide you with the Day Pass for the Park at no charge and also make your parking registration saving you time and money - $42 daily. The POD is locally made of sustainably harvested Algonquin pine. It is 12 ft long x 8 wide x 8 tall with thick insulated walls and steel roof to keep you safe and secure in any weather. It has electrical outlets and power bars. A baseboard heater keeps you warm. Sleep in a double bed on a comfortable mattress and enjoy your morning coffee watching the sun come up through the glass front door - or close the curtains and sleep in. A Keurig coffee maker with tea and coffee is provided. A jug of filtered water is in the POD for drinking and making coffee. I provide pillows, sheets, comforter, bath towels, hand towels and face cloths. Let me know if you prefer to bring your own bedding and pillows. Relax in the gazebo beside the pond and prepare food and eat meals, plan your day and play board games in the evening. There is no electrical power here so you can rough it off-grid with candles and a lantern - just like camping. It has a love seat, dining table with two chairs, solar lamp and string lights, cooler with ice packs for perishables and a cupboard for all other food. Dishes and cooking utensils, pots, pans etc are provided. Vaping and smoking cannabis is fine in the gazebo and around the fire. Propane BBQ for grilling and a hot plate for frying and boiling are beside the gazebo under a covered shelter. No running water is available so I wash your dishes so no need to bring anything for dishwashing. It gets very dark here so bring headlamps, flashlight and battery operated lamp for gazebo if you have one. The outdoor toilet is clean, spacious and odor free. It is a DIY composting toilet you scoop sawdust, peat moss and wood ash into. In warm weather there is a screened outdoor hot shower here. In winter you can take your bathroom kit and use the showers at Mew Lake campground in Algonquin Park with the pass I provide. You can buy firewood at a few places in town for the fire pit. I can provide the kindling and fire starter. WIFI is available but this is the country so it will be slow : ( Bring a book or preloaded movie : ) Cell phone service is not great but texting should work : ) Check out Friends of Algonquin website for activities and events happening in the Park. Guest access Because I only have a maximum of two guests you have exclusive use of the POD, gazebo, fire pit area and outdoor toilet/shower. There is very little interaction with me unless you have a question or I need some information. Your parking spot is in my driveway about 30 metres from the POD. Other things to note The POD is beside the pond behind my house where I first put it as a guest house. My house is close but separated with trees and plants for privacy. Gazebo does not have electrical power. It has a solar light and string lights but you will need headlamps, flashlights, battery table lamp if possible. It is not insulated but in cold weather the screened windows have clear plastic covering. The outdoor toilet is unheated and off-grid with no running water. It has soap and hand sanitizer and water dispenser. I am near the road so there is occasional vehicles but it is not a busy highway and is most often quiet and peaceful. Convenient location to get into the Park or town of Whitney within a few minutes.
