Sound-proofed Basement in Sellwood-Westmoreland w/ PRIVATE outdoor entrance, big windows, workspace, heated carpet, heated toilet seat and BIG screen w/ Bose soundbar. Reed College & Crystal Springs 1 mi. Trackers 1 mile. Downtown 4.5 mi/ <10min by car. The space Once we agree to your booking, it will not be canceled. Promise. *** Please check the photo of the second bedroom. It is a tiny nook in the main room without a door. It has curtains for privacy. ****Limited to 2 adults and 1 child (under 12), exceptions allowed upon request. ****No cigarette smokers please. Other smokers ok, but not in house or around. No pets other than geckos or guinea pigs in their cages. * Level 2 car charger available upon request. We will charge you based on time if longer than a couple hours. * Basement does not need AC in hot months. If it gets too hot, turn off the heated rug and/ or open the windows. Free Parking on the street. It is very quiet at night and during the day. The neighbors are often out and about socializing. Feel free to introduce yourselves. Make sure to THE ENTRANCE: Well-lit stairs down to the basement - and back up :) There is a code to get in. Inside is a shoes-OFF space. We have a heated carpet and cadet heaters that keep the place nice and warm. There are two large egress windows in the space letting in lots o light during the day. Each window has a double-hung privacy screen. Windows open for nice fresh air from spring through fall if you like. ENTRY: Stool for taking off shoes. We will provide umbrellas when needed. We have a coat rack, shopping bags, etc. KITCHENETTE: Mini-Fridge w/ Freezer. Ice in the freezer. -> Let us know if you need anything for your arrival and we will be happy to get your a few things. Granite countertop, stainless sink overlooking backyard (with privacy screen), drawers full of everything you need. If you need something else, just ask. Electric Coffee / tea maker - we will give you some coffee and teas Aero Press French Press Microwave (with sound off- please leave it that way) and Toaster (for bread and bagels)- both coming, so may not be in photos Hot water pitcher Lots of glasses, silverware, chopsticks, etc. NO STOVE, NO OVEN Basic kitchen supplies DINING AREA: On the heater rug, a small table for eating or playing games. The side fold down. UKULELE: available in the space. Will have a tuner on it. WORKSPACE: Across from the kitchenette, can be moved to the nook, or wherever you want. We have pens, paperclips, tape, scissors, sticky notes, books on Portland, etc. NOOK: This flex space small dining table and two chairs plus an exercise mat and some games. If you have a guest that needs a second bed, we have a very comfortable fold out full bed that fits perfectly in this space. BATHROOM: Japanese style heater toilet set with bidet. Oh heaven! Sliding door shower. Vanity, Medicine cabinet. Shelves with plenty of towels and tissues, etc. Cadet heater to make the room very toasty. Please only use the timer setting. And please set the fan to an hour when showering. But don't shower for an hour, please! SLEEPING AREA: There is a Queen-sized sofa bed with Tempur-pedic topper at the far end of the space with an open closet, across from the bathroom, under one of the large windows (with privacy screen). There is a lamp for reading and a bowl with remotes to the Apple TV and projector. SLEEPING AREA 2: the nook serves as a second “room” with a fold out full size bed that fits fully within the nook. It has its own light but no door. VIEWING AREA: The screen is about 13' diagonally and will BLOW YOUR MIND. We will be putting in a new speaker system soon, but for now there is a small, but powerful Bluetooth speaker that connects automatically. You can also connect your headphones to Apple TV if you want. Sitting with your back against the pillows on the side of the sofa-bed, you can stretch out and enjoy Disney+, Apple TV, NETFLIX, YOUTUBE, etc. If you want to buy something just pay us back. LAUNDRY: This room is the first door to the right as you walk in to the space. If is locked; however, if you stay at least 3 nights or REALLY NEED to do laundry during a shorter stay, let me know. * laundry unavailable until Jan 2023 OUTDOOR SEATING: There are a pair of chairs and table in the front yard by the walkway you will take in and out of the space. From Spring to Fall, you will be surrounded by Daphne, Lavender, Jasmine, Rhododendron, Azaleas, a big fig tree, and vegetables. The space is semi-private and fenced off on one side. A third (camping) chair is available if you need it. Just be sure to bring it back in so it doesn't get stolen. ***BACKYARD USAGE: The backyard is NOT available for your use unless discussed. There is a large covered patio, gas BBQ and lots of fruits. *** PING PONG- if you are nationally ranked, you have to play me! LOL. If you're interested in going from a basic player to a better player, I can teach you a few things. See EXTRAS. *** BIKING: We have a couple of bikes you can borrow and a bike extender for young kids. But we recommend bringing your own helmets as we have a limited supply, and we have small heads! :) *** WALKING and./or REAL ESTATE TOUR: See EXTRAS *** KAYAK TOUR: See EXTRAS ATTRACTIONS / Things to do: Walking distance to bars, restaurants, cafes, antique stores, movie theater, and grocery store. One of the most famous sushi restaurants in the city, Saburo's, is 2 blocks away and a great wine bar (Corkscrew) is right next to it. I will recommend a much better sushi place if you stay with us. 7-8 minutes drive from Hawthorne and Downtown, 5 minutes to OMSI (science museum), 10-minute walk to Westmoreland Park (one of the largest parks in Portland), 6-minute walk to the Farmer's Market (every Wednesday starting May 15), and a 10-minute bike ride (1 mile) to the river. The northern entrance to the Walking trails of Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge (150 acres) is a 7-minute walk. Reed College and Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden (one of the best kept secrets in the city) is at most a 10-minute bike ride away (.75 miles). The only public golf course in the city limits (Eastmoreland Golf Course) borders the Rhody Garden. We are also only a 15-20 minute walk to Oaks Bottom Amusement Park (think the movie BIG, more than 100 years old). It's good for adults and kids. The entrance to the 40-mile Spring Water Bike Corridor that loops around the city is a 5-minute bike ride or 10-minute walk roughly.there is a good donut shop across the street from the entrance called Cocos. TRANSPORTATION We have a driveway and street parking, if you are driving. The bus from downtown drops off a block away. Riding your bike? the Spring Water Corridor is a few blocks away- no cars- and takes you to downtown through a 150-acre bio-reserve along the Willamette River. Just let us know the ages of your child(ren). OPTIONAL TO DOS: SELLWOOD SHUFFLE WALKING TOUR that I created years ago ($50 for 1 hour up to 2 people; $100 for 1.5 hours up to 4 people). I have led over 100 people on this tour and everyone is surprised at how much we have in this neighborhood, Including a mausoleum, one of the largest hand painted murals in the United States, views of Mt. Saint Helen and Mt Hood, 4 parks, a house that looks like a Japanese temple, a speakeasy, and a few things I don’t want to ruin by telling you now. - this can be tweaked to include a real estate run down and details of many hoses and home costs. I have been inside more than 100 homes in this neighborhood and know more than I should about them. PING PONG LESSONS: I’ve been taking classes from one of only 50 professional ping pong coaches in the US. I’m still not that great, but I have learned a lot and can pas on some of what I know. $25/ 30 mins. I also have a ROBOPONG you can rent for the same. KAYAKING: I have 2 ORU folding INLET kayaks, under 20 pounds, for you and another person to use. I have another Beach LT. We will go on the Willamette River, only 5 minutes drive away. I can drive you. $100 for 1.5 hours (including travel time, set up, etc) for one person or $150 for 2 people. We will go to Sellwood park, where I’ll show you How to put together the kayaks. That takes 10 Mins. Then I’ll give you a 5-min safety lesson and fitting in the kayak so you are Comfortable and don’t flip! Then we launch from the pier. That takes another 5 mins. Basically, 30 minutes from my house until we are in the water. You’ll see Downtown from the pier. I’ll take you around the Sellwood Bridge (.25 miles each way) if you’re a beginner or to Toe Island (1 mile each way) if you’re an experienced kayaker. Night kayaking option is $150/ person or $250 for two people for 1.5 hours. $200/250 for 2.5 hours. Only for experienced kayakers. We will put in at the sellwood bridge and go toward the Tillikum Bridge, heading to the boat houses and feeling like we are in the middle of nowhere. The longer trip will take us to Ross Island Bridge and OMSI to paddle next to a submarine or even the Tillikum Bridge. Another option is to travel under the Sellwood Bridge to Elk Rock Island.
