A spacious, self-contained apartment in our unique Victorian town house, with separate front door and back door to the garden. We are 8 minutes' walk from the largest cathedral in Northern Europe - York Minster - and about 10 minutes from the railway station. Your apartment has a myriad of original features, including the servants' bells in the bedroom and wooden shutters to the windows in both the sitting room and the bedroom. The space Our tree-lined street is very quiet, despite being so close to the centre of this ancient city, with its many cafés, restaurants, shops, medieval buildings, arts and culture, and traditional pubs. A small supermarket is just five minutes' walk away from the apartment. Access to the apartment is down Victorian steps which are quite steep and narrow, and unfortunately not suitable for people with any mobility difficulties. The light and airy sitting room, with its large bay window, has a TV, DVD player, and CD player. The window has the original wooden shutters in the central panel, with curtains either side. The bedroom has a king sized bed and looks out through another bay window onto the walled back garden. Like the sitting room, the bedroom has the original Victorian shutters, this time on all three panels of the bay window. Both rooms have walk-in wardrobes (closets). The fully equipped kitchen comfortably accommodates a dining table. A space off the kitchen houses the fridge, freezer, and microwave, and provides access to the large back garden which the family uses, and which guests are welcome to share. In summer you can even pop out into the garden to pick some wild strawberries for your breakfast, right outside your back door! The bathroom contains a shower (but no bathtub). All the rooms open out onto a central area with a table which can be used for dining, board games, or working on a laptop. There is internet WiFi. You'll be welcomed with flowers, tea, coffee, fresh bread, butter, preserves, fruit and a bottle of wine. We’ll be on hand to answer any questions or give you tips about the city, in which we've lived for many years. Please be aware that the rest of the house is our home, so you may sometimes hear signs of life above you! Unfortunately we are not able to offer day-time parking other than on Sundays, as we are so close to the city centre. Parking from 5pm until 10am is possible. But cars are not needed in York - everywhere is within walking distance of our property. There are excellent train services to the city. Our apartment is a non-smoking apartment, and not suitable for hen or stag parties, nor pets. Guest access Access to the apartment is by eight original narrow stone steps to the front door, which are attractive and characteristic of the period, but unfortunately unsuitable for people with mobility problems. Guests are welcome to share our walled back garden with us. Other things to note York is very easy to get to by train (less than 2 hours from London) or plane (1 hour 50 minutes direct train to Manchester Airport). We encourage traveling by train, as parking is rather expensive in the city, and we are close enough to the city centre for everywhere to be within walking distance.
