Hill House Garuda - a wooden Forest Cabin.

6km NE of Rantepao. A rural self contained 3 bedroom dwelling set in a bamboo forest beside terraced rice fields. Within 80 meters of other village houses. Be looked after by people in the village and by qualified tour guides. Experience village life. Use this house as a base for trekking and exploring Tana Toraja. Has a kitchen and clean separate bathroom (toilet and shower). Recently built by an Australian Engineer/Architect for his part time personal use and as a gift to the local village. The space There is no other rentable house like this in Toraja. Built in traditional style from local wood with a high class of carpentry. The views from the front veranda over the rice fields and forest are "to die for." The site is quite and serene. Guests can enjoy the whole house. The bathroom and toilet are in a detached brick building located a few metres from the house. Showers use room temperature mineral water. But heated water can be provided. Guest access The cottage is vacant and with a separate private bathroom. From the small community cluster of houses beside the main village road, a path leads down through a banana and bamboo forest to the cottage and amenity building. Guests are free to explore the village and forest areas nearby. Other things to note This is a perfect place to rest and get away from noisy cities. It offers the chance to experience the village life of these very hospitable people. It is also an ideal base for trekking, exploring the region and for visiting ceremonies. Meals can be prepared by Agus. Prices are reasonable. The shower has running mineral water that is at room temperature. Hot water can be heated. Most guests appreciate the natural washing experience.
