Description

Eva’s room (named after our daughter whose bedroom it once was), is a small twin room with two 90cm beds. It is ideal for friends, siblings, or parent and offspring. It's aspect is over Spitalastigur. We are a licenced, family run, and fantastically well located guesthouse in the centre of Reykjavik 101. All Reykjavik’s main attractions, including her best restaurants, bars, cafes, sites and museums are within a few hundred meters, and the city’s festivals and events happen on our doorstep. The space The house is a traditional timber built Icelandic house, warm and snug throughout the year as heated with Iceland’s famous hydro-thermic hot water. All our guests have access to three shared bathrooms, two sitting rooms, an office space upstairs, a dining area, and to a kitchen which can be used for heating up food and snacks but not for cooking full meals. We do not offer breakfast for the very good reasons that we are not licenced to serve food and there are so many excellent bakeries, restaurants and coffee houses so locally; these open very early. Our house itself is well known, and is listed. Built in 1906, it was a bicycle shop for fifty years, the first of these in Iceland, and as such it is much loved in Reykjavik, especially by people who bought their first bike here a generation ago. We are popular with film companies who love filming here. Traditional timber framed houses have certain features and quirks. Ours flexes and breathes, which is important in earthquake prone zones like ours, but it does mean that it is not as soundproof as modern concrete buildings are. Guest access Your private bedroom, sitting room, kitchen, and dining room. There is a shared bathroom on every floor. The kitchen is suitable for teas and coffees, light snacks and heating up simple foods, but we do not allow cooking. There is a back yard with attractive golden rowan trees in it which is a nice aspect out of the windows, but this is part of our family space and not part of the guesthouse strictly speaking. During your stay I am half English / half Icelandic, born and bred in Reykjavik, and am native in both languages. This is my home as I grew a couple of hundred meters away in Njalsgata street. My husband Fergus is Anglo-Irish and our children (by upbringing) are English. Our part of the property is adjacent to but attached to the guesthouse. We are in residence most of the time, but spend some time in England as our now adult children live there. When not here, we have a manager who lives in. Be in touch before you travel to allow us to help you have the best possible experience of Iceland. Once you book we will send you directions and instructions for a stress free arrival. Other things to note Reykjavik is served by hydro-thermally heated hot water. Our hot water is hot and plentiful therefore and each bedroom has a radiator with an adjustable regulator. Don't be cold. Turn your radiator up if you wish. Hydro-thermic hot water is, by definition, volcanic, and therefore very slightly sulphurous. It is good for your skin. It tastes a bit off however, so run the mixer tap on cold tap for a good few seconds before drinking it or brushing your teeth. We have the best quality municipal drinking water in the world, by a very considerable margin. Delicious. Registration Details Malsnr. 0441-041-2015-0607
