Its houses cluster along the walls of a 15th century chateau. The entire village is classified and protected from commercialization. It is ideally situated for exploring the Dordogne region. Berbiguières is within easy reach of a rich variety of historic sites, from the pre-historic caves at Lascaux, to nearly 50 restored castles that date from the 100 Years War (1325-1453), Access to the Dordogne for swimming and canoeing is nearby. The hills beckon with excellent hiking opportunities. The property is locally managed by a friend and neighbor who speaks excellent English. She is available to answer questions and provide information as needed. Midnight, with the village lights turned off, the castle walls looming above you, the village much as was in medieval times, with perhaps a screech owl adding its comment to the scene. There is magic in this. No public transit to the village. Note: there are steep stairs (with railings) in the cottage, so it may not be suitable for inform people. We have owned this property since 1998, often visit ourselves, and have never run out of sites to see, outdoor markets to shop in, and walks, concerts, bike rides, festivals to enjoy.
